Welcome to this week's Paul Mitchell Golf Academy newsletter! It's me again (Caren) ready to fill you in on this week's news.
Paul's Playing Again
Paul played at Saunton last week, in the PGA West Region Saunton Classic. The weather was somewhat questionable, with pouring rain on Tuesday, and Paul shot a disappointing 79. On a bright and sunny Wednesday, the second day of the competition, Paul found some form and posted a decent 71 on the East course. Paul's playing schedule now takes him to Hadley Wood golf club in Hertfordshire, where he will compete in the Foremost National Professional Championships on Thursday 1st May. We wish him the best of luck in his quest for victory. It's interesting to see the coach playing rather than coaching, and yes he does get nervous!
Whilst in Saunton, I had the chance to visit some great places and I would thoroughly recommend North Devon for a mini break with the kids. Cam loved playing on Saunton beach, and what a fantastic view from Saunton Sands Hotel. Squires chip shop in Braunton does the best fish and chips and Croyde bay is a great walk. Sorry if I sound like the local tourist office but it is always nice to share good experiences!
So onwards to B&C news!
The Wednesday Medal on 16th April was won by Clive Pulteney with a net 68. Martin Reed was in second place with a net 71, and the winner of the Wednesday medal on 23rd was Tony Mann with a net 71. Great job guys.

Don't forget the May Medal is on Saturday 3rd May, online start sheet tee times bookable, and as the sheet fills so quickly I would recommend early booking.
I would also like to remind all juniors that this
Sunday 4th May is my
Caren Mitchell Trophy. Please come and compete to win my trophy... it's glittery and it's cute and handpicked by moi! Come on lads and lasses, we need you. I would love a nice big photo of the winner with my trophy in the driving range display cabinet, so I am counting on you guys to come and support the junior section by competing in this 18 hole competition.
The next Ladies' fixture is the Ladies' Medal 4 on 6th May, booking online. Hope you lovely ladies enjoy some sunshine.
There is a 9 hole roll up and curry supper for all members on
Wednesday 7th May at 6pm so this is definitely worth coming along to. It's good to play with others and meet new people, so I urge you to participate in one of the organised roll ups. The dates are in the diary section of the Bristol & Clifton Golf Club website.
On 10th May we also play the Fry and Steinburg Cups, no booking necessary so just come into the shop to register.
This week I asked my academy team to write an article for you all, so Andy and Luke took up my challenge and this week we feature Andy's warm up exercises, to get you ready for playing. Next week Luke's turn will cover his fully subscribed Seniors' Group Coaching Session.
Over to Andy McG!
Hi everyone
As the season is well under way I thought I'd share with you a few ways that you can better prepare before that all important medal or weekly Stableford. As the famous mantra goes, "fail to prepare, prepare to fail!"
This week I'll be sharing one of my favourite warm up exercises that is great if you're pushed for time before heading to the 1st tee. The ladies from my groups will be familiar with this one, and I'm sure they'll tell you how it can benefit you.
Just click on the video's below for a demonstration on how to perform the lunge with a twist correctly.
Lunge with a twist
When performing the lunge, make sure your front knee remains over your front ankle, and keep your torso upright to keep your weight centred. Rotate left and right keeping your lower body stable and facing forward. Feel like you're creating some separation between your upper and lower body, something that is vital in order to create power in the golf swing.
Thanks Andy. I remember doing these in your Ladies golf fitness group and feeling rather warmed up after them! It is always a pleasure to read informed articles by my staff. What a great team I have, thanks guys for being my right hand men.
Our very own Kristian will soon be competing in first team matches, as he is still currently an amateur until his induction in September into the PGA training programme. He is used to brutal conditions at Saunton, so I will be interested to watch his progress and I am sure he will produce some great results for B&C.
Sunderland Waterproof Jackets
We are currently selling off some of our Men's Sunderland Waterproof Jackets. The style is called Resort and these are guaranteed waterproof for three years. These top of the range jackets were £119 but we are selling them at an amazing price of just £80. This weekend's medal has just got even more competitive! Purchase any FootJoy glove from us on May medal day, then beat your handicap and we'll give you that same glove for FREE. That's a nice little 2-for-the-price-of-1 incentive for those of you who fancy going low. What a great time to dispose of that worn glove.
