Hi everyone,
We are back from our trip to the Norfolk Broads and ready for the week's action! On we go..
This week saw the July Medal played in very blustery weather but that didn't deter the 122 competitors. The results looked like this.
Div 1 winner - Calum Mortimore, 2nd - Jack Davies, 3rd - John Oliver
Div 2 winner - Sean Devane, 2nd - Michael Poole, 3rd - Dan Britton
Well played to you all - and congrats to Calum, winner of the July Medal with nett 69 and lowest gross score with a score of 71.
In the Ladies' July Medal, the winner was Yvonne Wesbroom with Vicky Reed in second place. Well done.
This week also saw the Weekday Medal - unfortunately the score ended; Weekday medal 0, Pouring Rain 1. Nobody braved the wet stuff and so we will see the next weekday medal on the 13th.
The Ladies played in the Ladies' Invitation day last Tuesday - the 4BBB stableford format was really well supported, and the eventual winners were Vice Captain Sarah Cheetham and her guest Jane Madden with 38 points. In second place came Pao Poole and her guest Ann Manley with 37 points.
So what's on the way?
*6th & 7th July - SW Under 18 Boys champs
*8th July - Titleist Fitting Day
*10th July - Failand Cup
*12th July - Ladies' Medal and Vets Muriel Button
*13th July - Weekday Medal *14th July - Divots V Shirehampton (away)
*14th July - 1st team V Farrington (away)
Lots of good stuff to tell you, now about the Academy.
This week saw us sign up for a relatively new Junior Initiative, which is run through the Golf Roots programme and in conjunction with The Open Championship.
On Sunday, 17 July, the Paul Mitchell Golf Academy throws open its doors for one hour, starting at 10am, to provide juniors with FREE coaching. Paul will be at the head of this initiative with help from Andy and Nick, and will be offering FREE coaching during that hour to all the juniors who attend.
This is open to everyone, members and non-members, visitors and guests, and we hope to make it a really enjoyable experience. Every attendee will take home a FREE HSBC hour Golf Roots T-Shirt as a memento of the day, and we will be promoting our own Junior Coaching Schemes as a way of encouraging these participants to play and potentially join our great club.
Please come along and bring your children or grandchildren - all welcome. If you can't make it pass the flyer to another family. We would also be grateful if you could mention this at any school you are associated with or your children attend. We want to get as many children into golf as we can.
Moving on now to our Titleist Fitting Day.
On Friday, 8 July, we will be holding our Titleist Fitting Day here at the golf club. This is a great way to try out all the brand new products from Titleist, and also have all specs available to you.
We are fully booked for the afternoon spaces, but still have a couple of morning appointments, so if you are interested, don't delay and reserve today.
This is totally FREE to all participants, there is no obligation to purchase and you will not be subjected to hard sell, you will simply be allowed to browse and try with top custom fitters from Titleist themselves.
Click here to find out more about Titleist's fantastic hardware line up for 2016, or click here to get in touch if you would like to reserve a slot.
Next Saturday the boys will be going on the road to Blaise Castle for the first Get Into Golf Day, encouraging juniors, adults, beginners, intermediates, inclusion and just everyone into trying the equipment and just getting a club and having a go.
These days are always so busy and so well supported - I only wish I could be there, but I step back to allow my wonderful team to go forth and coach.
Good luck to Paul, Andy & Nick as they take on the castle challenge. I will of course be reporting back on how they did next week.
Is it the 'Big Three' or the 'Big Four'?
Just when you thought Jason Day, Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy were all set to divvy up golf's biggest prizes, along comes big-hitting Dustin Johnson. The US champion is now number two in the world and looks to be finally fulfilling his potential after another fine win at the weekend - and a big one too at the WGC Bridgestone Invitational. For years Johnson seemed destined to be the bridesmaid, now he's one of the favourites to go back-to-back in Majors and take the Claret Jug back across the Atlantic.
Next week's Open at Royal Troon could be a classic
Which leads us on to a new section of our website - our regular poll, and we want your votes. Tell us who you think will win the Open Championship next week; will it be Day, Johnson, Spieth, McIlroy or A.N. Other?
Have your say by clicking through to our homepage here...
On that note enjoy a great week
Caren, Paul, Nick and Andy
