Hi everyone,
The sun has finally made an appearance and we are now enjoying the very best of July weather.
Let's move on to the news from the golf club.
Once again we've had a busy week full of activity at B&C. Here's the lowdown.
Ladies took on the Ladies' Medal competition last Tuesday, the winner being Julie Knox with Alison Bracey in second place. Many congratulations.
The Club Stableford and National Golf Club Challenge was played on a pleasant Saturday, with a very full field of players. The winner was Greg Gough pushing Vicky Reed into second place and Ross Bradley in third. Great golf everyone.
Jane and Peter Watts organised a great Mixed Foursomes Supper Evening on Sunday, with a Greensomes Stableford format. The victorious winners were Head Greenkeeper Matt Hawker and Eva Tucker. Well done.
We are moving towards the Festival Week, celebrating 125 years of Bristol & Clifton's heritage. Here's what's happening from Sunday 24th:
- Sunday, 24 July - Mixed Open
- Monday, 25 July - PGA Pro Am
- Tuesday, 26 July - Ladies' Open
- Wednesday, 27 July - Seniors' Open
- Thursday, 28 July - Junior Open
- Friday, 29 July - Hickory Shaft Challenge
- Saturday, 30 July - Anniversary Medal and Festival Ball
- Sunday, 31 July - Caren Mitchell Junior Trophy
What a great week coming up.
Now let's move on to Academy things.
This week saw another week of variety for us. On Saturday the lads headed to Portishead Lake to carry out our second Get Into Golf Day for 2016.
This time it was down to Paul, Andy and Hugo and they did an amazing job.
If you have a junior who would like to get into golf, please come and have a chat with us in the pro shop, or click here to get in touch.
Earlier on in the week, the boys enjoyed a visit from Titleist's
Rich Nelsey and his colleague Paul from Sussex. This was a great opportunity to further increase product knowledge and also hear about the new 917 product coming soon. Nick was given some training on custom fitting whilst Rich and Paul talked winter 2016 and new items in the range of the Acushnet family product.
We also held our HSBC Hour of
FREE coaching last Sunday. We had four girls and three boys join us for a
FREE hour of golf coaching on the range, courtesy of HSBC who sponsor The Open. It was a blast to see them all having fun.
It is also a pleasure to see the girls having fun and making new friends - well done Paul, you're really getting the Junior Section filling up.
Now I would like to pass you over to Paul for his round up of the week.
What an amazing Open Championships once again. Phil Mickelson and Henrick Stenson are two fantastic golfers, and it was so hard to call who would win the trophy on Sunday evening. I was quietly supporting Henrick's first major win although Mickelson is one of my favourite golfers of all time.
Talking of my favourite golfers, Chris Wood could only manage 12 holes and had to pull out of The Open Championships. He picked up a neck injury just before the Scottish Open the previous week and unfortunately it didn't clear up in time. Fingers crossed things get sorted in time for the USPGA Championships in two weeks' time.
Mitch Waite (19) who is an away member of Bristol and Clifton has been showing some great form this year. I've been teaching Mitch since he was fourteen and it was great to see him achieve his best performance at the weekend in the Tillman Trophy at East Sussex National, with a third place finish. Even better news, his finishing position has activated his Amateur World Ranking, which is important to open more opportunities in national events. Mitch shot a second round 66 at B&C in the Failand Cup the previous week and lost out to
David Wood by a single shot. Well done Mitch who has managed to reduce his handicap this season from scratch to plus 2.4.
Myself, Andy and B&C junior player
Hugo Yaxley had a wonderful day at Portishead Lake Grounds and from this day alone, we have recruited at least a further half a dozen players to the game.
Our pretend trees, water hazards and bunkers enticed the younger children from the playground to our three hole golf course and the kids absolutely loved it. The big giant inflatable net gave the adults a chance to get some free golf tuition and for us to persuade them to start golf at Bristol and Clifton Golf Club. A very successful day all round.
Now onto a cracking opportunity for all those entered to play in the 125th Anniversary Medal a week on Saturday. If you purchase any model of Titleist golf balls before you go out to play in the medal and beat the competition standard scratch, I will give you the same amount of balls
FREE.
It's going to be a smashing week next week to celebrate 125 years of Bristol and Clifton Golf Club. The marquee is being erected this week and the first event kicks off on Sunday. The Charity Pro Am on Monday is completely full, and if the weather keeps up, is looking to be one of the biggest events on the PGA calendar.
Don't forget Friday is the Hickory Shafted Competition and in the early evening we have Paul Barrington's brilliant Trick Show on the first tee, followed by a complimentary buffet. Don't forget to sign up in the Spike Bar.
Finally, Titleist 915 drivers and fairways have been price repositioned. The drivers have been dropped from
£329 to
£249 and the fairway woods from
£199 to
£149. A number of members have already taken advantage of this brilliant offer, and don't forget these clubs can be fitted.
Keep your eyes peeled for Titleist's next offerings late September, early October.

Paul
We would also like to congratulate
Ronnie Allen on getting a hole in one last week. This was on the 6th and is a great achievement so well done Ronnie.
On that note, have a great week
Caren, Paul, Andy and
Nick
