Hi everyone,
I hope you are all having a good week so far. Here's the weekly journal!
Last Tuesday, the Ladies played in the Ladies' Medal. Unfortunately the competition had to be cancelled due to poor weather. Thunder started proceedings and lightning soon followed. I had to close the course twice and by 2.45pm we were back open for business. The Ladies' Medal will be replayed on 4th October.
The weekend saw Captain's Day played and enjoyed by all. The format was a Bowmaker, 2 scores to count, with all scores to count on par 3s, the 9th and 18th. The winning team were Dan Andrew, Clive Mackenzie, John Nelson-Smith and Richard Smale. In second place were Alex Champion, Jack Davies, Richard Parry and Oli Pomphrey. Great golf guys.
A big congratulations also goes to Jane Bell who won Nearest the pin in 3 on the 9th and longest drive on the 14th fairway.
Many congratulations to you all and a huge thank you to Captain Peter for putting on such a great day for everyone. We were also treated to chicken and chips in a basket (love retro food) or scampi and this topped off a great day. It was also a pleasure to see Dan Andrew attend and give such a nice speech, well done Dan.

So now we move over to the academy and tell you what we've been doing this week.
This week saw Andy start the first of the three weekly sessions at Woodstock School in Henbury. I was not aware of the school until the Golf Foundation mentioned that they would like some coaching and you know us, we don't turn away inclusive work because it means a lot to us and those who benefit from it.
We love to help kids who don't otherwise get the chance to do this, and I am ever so grateful to Andy for rising to the challenge.
There were a small group of 8 children who joined Andy and school teacher
Matt Smith in the most beautiful surroundings of the school (what an incredible building). They all enjoyed themselves and we are looking forward to coaching there again next week. For their final lesson they are coming to the driving range here at the club as a little treat to them. Andy said they were so keen to see what a real course looked like.
We are in the midst of running a beginners group for Ladies as part of our Get into Golf initiative. Eight Ladies join Paul on a Wednesday evening for an hour to be instructed in our fine sport. Following this series of sessions, we will also be running a series of 5 for £40 Improvers Sessions with Paul, as a follow on from the Beginners Group.
The dates of these are Saturday 15th and 22nd October, 5th, 19th and 26th November, all sessions starting at 12pm.
These are a great idea for beginners who have been through one of our many beginner series or who have not played for a long time and need a refresher.

Now we move on to a short report from Paul with some reminders as he is off to a certain well known golf tournament next week.....
It's just a few days now until I leave for Hazeltine and it's great to see Chris putting in some decent performances on the European Tour. Chris has become one of the best putters on the tour over the years, and I noticed last Saturday in the Italian Open that he had a round of just nineteen putts. If he were to putt like that in the Ryder Cup, I'm sure any opposition would find it difficult to beat him?
Chris has previously played at Hazeltine in the 2010 USPGA Championships and so knows the course pretty well. I'm sure Davis Love will have the course set up to suit his team, but by the Thursday evening, the Europeans will be prepared to do battle.
As always it's a huge task to try to beat the Americans in their own back yard, but Darren Clark and his Vice Captains will hopefully be inspiring the players to victory. Come on Europe!
Just a reminder about our Ryder Cup competition. If you purchase two sleeves of Titleist golf balls and guess correctly a win or lose for Europe, you will be entered into a prize draw to win £60 of your choice of Titleist golf balls.
Not only that, if you purchase a dozen balls, you will get two entries into the draw and either a
FREE Titleist Baseball Cap or Limited Edition ball marker.
Next week sees Nick return from paradise and life goes on as normal. He's been in a hammock you know (lucky boy)...
On that note, have a great week;
Caren, Paul, Andy and
Nick
