Hi everyone,
What a wonderful week of Summer weather we have had this week, and it has been very busy out on the golf course. The Failand Plate was contested by a full field last Sunday, and many golfers from as far as Merseyside had made the effort to play in the 36 hole nett competition for 5 to 14 handicapped golfers.
As to plan, our very own Matthew Windo produced some consistent golf throughout the day to win the Failand Plate. Rounds of nett 72 and 71 won by a clear two shots even with the stress of Matt's girlfriend expecting Matt's arrival at Temple Meads station after a long trip away. Matt had mistakenly booked the train ticket back from Gatwick for the wrong day and had to rush off at the end of the day! A great performance by Matt.
A quick mention also for James Robinson who not only missed out by one shot in the Gloucestershire County Under 16's Championship last week, but in the Failand Plate he scored the best gross score in the morning of 77.

Chris Wood put in another good performance in the Spanish Open at PGA Cataluna on the weekend. In contention going into the final day, he started well, only to bogey six out of seven holes to the turn dropping way down the leaderboard. Three birdies on the back nine pushed him back into the top ten to finish tied seventh. After a late flight home on Sunday night, he got up early on Monday to drive to Surrey to hold a clinic for Mizuno with Luke Donald, and then onto Wentworth the following day for a practice round for the BMW PGA Championships. He played with Sir Ian Botham, Brian Lara and Allan Lamb in yesterday's Pro Am and certainly enjoyed their company. No rest for the wicked!
Chris and I have been really focusing on the mental side of his game this past month, and so far it has made a big difference to his game. This week is a huge week for Chris and he will no doubt be trying his upmost to win although it won't be easy as most of the top European players are competing this year including, Luke Donald, Rory McIlroy, Lee Westwood, Ian Poulter and Justin Rose. The course is in fantastic condition and will play fiddly once the tournament directors tuck the pins into difficult positions.
Bristol and Clifton's Attached Playing Professional, Paul Reed plays his third event of the year on the EuroPro Tour in Northumberland and is eager to get his third career win. For score updates, please click here.
