Hi everyone,

It's chilly but at least it's getting lighter in the morning which is some consolation! Let's get on with the show by starting with the latest golf club info.

Club news

This week Ladies played in the Foursomes Stableford. Here's a list of the winners!

1st - Sarah Cheetham and Paula Crabtree.
2nd - Claire Fairman and Karen Smith.
3rd - Lis Jensen and Barbara Jeffcott.

Many congratulations Ladies!

Sarah    Paula

We held our first Pro Shop Stableford of 2017 on the weekend, it was a qualifier and the winner of this was wonderful Nick Parsons with Oli Pomphrey in second place and Ash Sedar in third. Well done to all of you!

So what's on the B&C horizon for the next couple of weeks?

* Tuesday 24th Ladies' Hi-Lo Bowmaker (enter online)
* Friday 27th Seniors' Stableford (no need to book)
* Saturday 28th Pro Shop Stableford (no need to book)

That'll keep us all busy! So let's see what's occurring in the Pro Shop.

Academy news

InclusionThis week we planned and finalised our Inclusion dates for 2017. These sessions are also open to all, regardless of age and ability. The first session starts on 29th April at 10am. For a full list of dates, please pop into the shop and we can give you them.

We are honoured to be able to introduce everyone to golf - it's great Physio for every attendee!

This leads us on to our beginner Get into Golf dates. We will be doing the popular 5 sessions for £25 for a group of up to 8 attendees, and these start on 29th March at 6pm with Andy. These are booking only in order to keep the group to 8, so pop into the shop or give us a call on 01275 393031 to book a place for a friend, relative or a randomer! Only kidding.

Get  Into  Golf

NailseaTalking of Get into Golf, I have now decided and finalised the locality for our get into golf day. It will be in July and it will be at Millenium Park in Nailsea.

My reasoning for this is that Nailsea doesn't have a golf club, and it is close to B&C with a large primary school age footfall. It is also popular with dog walkers, bike riders and boot camps so we should be able to access a broad spectrum of different people. Let's do this and introduce some more lovely members into our most worthy establishment!

I have filled in the 28 page council form, which was a challenge, and have applied along with the obligatory site plans, emergency plans, risk assessments and so much more so soon we should receive confirmation. The date and time will follow - so keep your eyes peeled!

Now it's time for Pro's corner! Over to Paul for his round-up including a spot of training for Nick!

Pros news

Chris Wood starts his 2017 season this week in Abu Dhabi. It's going to be a great event with Dustin Johnson and Rickie Fowler due to tee is up this Thursday. He's been working extremely hard on his game over Christmas and will play Abu Dhabi, Qatar and Dubai before coming home to prepare for a new baby due mid February.

Local Professional Jordan Smith from Bowood Golf and Country Club contended this week in South African Open with Graeme Storm pipping Rory McIlroy for first place at the third sudden death playoff hole. Jordan has just gained his European Tour card after winning the Challenge Tour order of merit last year. I've been watching his results for a few seasons now and after a fine start to his 2017 campaign I really think this lad could be the next English player to watch.

Loft and LieIt's that time of year to check your loft and lie angles on your golf clubs. Just a degree change in angle over a years play can have a big impact on any golfer and it has been proven that a one degree change on lie angle can move the ball 5 yards off line when hitting from 150 yards. This week I have been training Nick on the loft and lie machine.

We can check and adjust one club for £3.50 or a full set for just £25.

Last weekend our PGA pro Andy held his first county academy programme here at the club - here's Andy's report of the week:

Hi everyone

This Sunday I had my first session with the Gloucester County Academy Programme Development squad here at Bristol and Clifton. These boys have been selected as some of the most promising young talent in the region and it's my job to help them to continue improving and understand what it takes to become the best players they can, whether that's lowering their handicap, representing the county or one day playing alongside the best players in the world.

Andy GroupI've been looking forward to this for a while now as performance coaching is something I'm keen to do more of. We spent the day testing the boys short games and putting to give us an idea of where their games are and to track their improvement throughout the year. I wasn't sure what to expect from the group but I was encouraged by what I saw. The lads are far from the finished article but their enthusiasm and willingness to learn was fantastic and certainly helped to make my job a lot easier.

They'll be back up at the club every month or so throughout the year for more group coaching days and hopefully by the end of the year one or two might make it up into the county squad.

One or two of the members saw the boys in action on Sunday and were suitably impressed. They're a friendly bunch so if you see them about say hello and give them a warm Bristol and Clifton welcome.

Andy

Very proud of you Andy, what a great assistant you are.

Next week sees an instructional as well as lots of results and other events. If you know someone who has not yet subscribed to this newsletter please point them to our website www.paulmitchellpga.co.uk or pop into the shop and sign up.

On that note, have a good week.

Caren, Paul, Nick and Andy.
