Hi all,
Getting closer to the Season Opener now - so excited! In the meantime, let's see this week's results at the best club in the West!
Seniors played the Blue Course in the Seniors' Stableford last Friday. The winner was David Pearce (43 points) with Robin Pierce-Williams in second (40 points) and Mike Ingham in third (39 points). Well played boys!
The Juniors here at B&C played their first Club Competition last weekend. The Mills/Wilkie Shield, named after two young lads who used to work for me in the shop some years ago, Matt Wilkie and Richard Mills, sponsored that shield and along with my own Caren Mitchell Trophy it is a nice blast from the past for me. I am so proud of our three junior competitors and the winners are as follows:
1st place - Harry Kennedy - 37 points
2nd place - Finnian Smith - 35 points
3rd place - Finn Ellis - 29 points
Well done lads, great golfing and we are excited to watch your progress over the season.
Thom Dyer and Sean Devane played the final of the Broke Cup last Friday, and it was always going to be a battle with these two awesome players. The eventual victor and holder of the Broke Cup is Sean Devane. Many congratulations and very well played to you both, what a great match boys.
So it's been the best week for golf - well done to everyone who played and an extra big hug for our winners!
Next week I will report and take piccies of the Season Opener - should be a great day for all.
Let's take a look at Academy News now....
This week Andy took the Tri Golf kit for the next Inclusion session at New Siblands. This is a school based on several campuses in Thornbury, catering for a broad range of special needs children. We have coached there before and were invited back this year to again work with the students.
Andy also completed the six weeks sessions at Fosseway Special School in Radstock near Bath this week. Isn't he a great lad? He's the very best assistant I could have (Nick's the very best trainee assistant!) and I am constantly amazed at how empathetic and awesome he is with the children he coaches.
Well done Andy.
We also had a visit from our FootJoy rep Gordi this week, to do a spot of shoe training and shoe fitting training with us all. We all had a refresher course on how to use the Brannock Device to exactly measure width. length and flexpoint of feet as well as in depth shoe training and product knowledge. It is always fascinating to learn new techniques and I am sure we will all be able to serve you even better than before.
Paul took advantage of a great afternoon to go out onto the course to take on Mr Chris Wood for 9 holes last week and he also held another England Golf AASE squad weekend .Here's Paul's report of the week:
Woody murdered me last Tuesday in our annual 9 hole match. I missed a couple of putts I would have normally holed and he sunk a couple of tricky 20 footers including a downhill right to left swinger on the seventh hole to beat me 3&2 over nine holes. I should have at least taken him to the ninth where I probably would have lost to him there.
With the WGC matchplay in Texas this week, Chris needed a tough opponent for some matchplay practice, hence the match.
We always have close games and believe it or not, I've actually druffed him up a couple of times, without any shots! He hates playing against me as I think he finds it hard to concentrate but it's great practice for him.
Good luck this week Woody!
The England South West Under 18's were put through their paces last weekend at B&C. The Strength and Conditioning Coach worked them hard during one to one sessions and with the course being battered by the wind, practice and playing conditions were demanding.
We had a great weekend though with plenty of progression and with only one more weekend together until the Autumn, I'll be sad to see the older year two players leave for the men's and ladies team squads.
Just a quickie - Always remember we will price match so never feel embarrassed to ask.
So we're moving to the end of the newsletter and this week we will be losing Nick to a week of annual leave, followed by Andy taking advantage of his remaining holiday and leaving us for a few days and our next video will be in a few weeks time - looking forward to watching the next instalment!
On that note, have a great week.
Caren, Paul, Nick and Andy.
