Hi everyone,
The seniors held their stableford last Wednesday and there are more and more seniors playing in the competition now, which is awesome. The winner of the day was John Martin with 38 points, followed by John Laycock in second with 37 points and Gordon Sanderson taking third spot with 36 points. Many congratulations to you all.
The weekend saw a huge and fully booked field with a waiting list take on the April medal, the first club medal of the season. The tee was booked from 7.30am all the way through to 3.30pm so it was a pleasure to see everyone out on such a lovely day.
Division One
- Winner - John Oliver.
- Second place - Ross Adamson.
- Third place - Ed Brown.
Division Two
Well done to you all!
What's coming next?
Ladies' Stableford Tuesday 1, April (online start sheet).
Divots V Worlebury Wednesday, 12 April (notice on board in men's changing room).
Wills Cup Saturday, 15 April (online start sheet).
Now we move on to the Academy news.
Paul and Head Greenkeeper Matt have been working together for a few months now and Matt has just had a great result this weekend. Over to Paul for his report:
A fantastic round by John Oliver and the best nett score on the day (72 -4 nett 68) sees him through as top qualifier in the Lombard Trophy Club Qualifier. John will accompany me to the Regional Final to play in Europe's biggest Pro Am tournament. If John and I can win the Regional, then we're off to Morocco and we will play against twelve other two man teams in the National Final. Great round John and I can't wait to play with you in the West Region Qualifier.
I know how concerned Matt Hawker was before teeing it up in the April medal at the weekend. With bets flying around as to whether he can get down to a single figure handicap and general fun mickey taking from particular members, he did himself and me proud. He said he was shaking like a leaf on the first tee and managed to find the fairway and green in regulation and two putts for an opening par. He was a little disappointed with his nett 72 as he felt he could have scored even better but a third place finish and a reduction in his handicap is a great start to the season.
Matt has worked so hard on his game and has learnt how he can play well and will only get better and better over the summer. Watch this space...Well done Matt!
This week the boys have been busy reviewing Titleist golf balls for us. Interestingly most people custom fit and trial clubs, but very little trial of golf balls occurs. This year when we run our Titleist custom fitting day, the golf ball boffins at Titleist are coming here to the club to run a golf ball demo day at the same time. How cool is that? You will get the opportunity to try out all the latest golf balls and see which is better for you, guided by experts in the product.
In the meantime, Titleist have asked Andy and Nick to review the new Pro V1 and Pro V1x for you and to show you the differences. Over to the lads for their write up and Video Instructional on this topic:
Very well done boys, again you rock with the videoing. Thought provoking stuff.
Well I am coming near to due date (just two weeks left), so although I will still be around (quite round ha ha) at the club I may not be as speedy as usual. Think snail then slow it down a bit. As so many are so interested (you guys are wonderful) my section will be between Monday, 24th April -Friday, 28th April, so baby will arrive some day between then. Don't worry, as soon as I know you will too!
Next week will see more comps results, more academy work and so much more, can't wait!
On that note, have a great week.
Caren, Paul, Andy and Nick.
