Hi everyone
As I am writing this a little in advance, I hope I won't bore you this week. Here's this week's round up of all B&C ins and outs.
Last weekend the Claret Jug final was played. The competitors were Dorothy and John Bastable playing against Gill and Nigel Jones. This was such a closely fought match, the winners taking the victory on 19th. Congratulations to Dorothy and John Bastable, holders of the Claret Jug 2017.
This weekend saw the Wills Cup take place. The field was a strong 97 on a start sheet, and the winners are as follows:
- First place - John Griffiths - 40 points.
- Second place - Neil Havill - 37 points.
- Third place - David Mann - 36 points.
- Fourth place - Ian Dixie - 36 points.
- Fifth place - Ian D James - 36 points.
Many congratulations to you all.
The ladies' stableford last week was played on a bright and beautiful Tuesday, with the winner of Division one being Anne Newman and the winner of Division two Angela Holland. Great golf ladies.
The Divots had their opening match last week, here's Brendan Blair, Divots Captain, to tell us all about it.
"The Divots got their season off to a winning start with a hard fought 3/2 victory in windy conditions. We blooded some new players, and it is great to see fresh faces in the squad. The next fixture is at home on Wednesday, 26 April. The Divots have 17 fixtures this year, so there is plenty of opportunity for new members to come forward. Keep your eye on the notice board in the changing room, and/or email Brendan Blair or Allan Slater if you are interested in playing."
What's on the way?
Thursday, 19 April - Midweek Mixed Open (booking via the office).
Sunday, 23 April - College Masters Trophy.
Now on to the Academy latest....
This week I have been kind of busy myself, so I have sent out a special mail for everyone, hope you enjoy.
Paul has been busy arranging some interviews, he is doing a podcast with an ex-member to be broadcast over the next few weeks, and he has also been asked to do a radio interview so we are certainly keeping him busy at the moment.
Paul is also looking forward to the Lombard Qualifier next round at Parkstone on Thursday, 6 July. He will be accompanied by Jon Oliver, winner of the April medal. Good luck to you two both. I am keeping everything crossed, if they win, they will be heading to Morocco for the next stage, so it is well worth a great round.
Andy has been busy securing more sessions with more special schools and we start coaching another school later in the season. Woodstock school have requested inclusion sessions for September and December, which I am thrilled about, as the season usually comes to a close in late October and it's a pleasure to keep going through the winter.
Nick is getting ready for exam season and then he is much more free to come and do some observations of the other staff coaching, in readiness for him starting coaching in the autumn. I am so excited that we will have another coach in the Academy.
The boys are now getting ready to start their playing and tournament schedule for the year. As a PGA trainee, Nick must play at least seven competitive rounds to satisfy the criteria of passing the year. He is playing next on Monday, 8 May at Radyr and Andy will be playing on Thursday, 11 May at Burnham and then on 12th in the Pro Am at Clevedon Golf Club. We wish them well at these events, come on boys. I will keep you up to date on their achievements.
Last week, I received some seriously lovely presents, including the cutest zebra suit for the baby and a chocolate dinosaur for Cam from Veronica and Bob, two beautiful handmade crocheted pram blankets from Bev Wilson (mum of one of Paul's England Golf pupils).
Also the cutest playmat from John and Melinda, beautiful baby clothes from Jan, Chris and Alex as well gorgeous sleepsuits and an Easter egg for Cam from Mary and Roger.
You are all so wonderful, thank you all so much.
So on that note, I hope you all have a great week and I will pop back in next week with a little person who I am sure would love a cuddle or 600.
Caren, Paul, Andy & Nick.
