This week saw the second of our Tri Golf Festivals of this season. 70 primary school children joined us on the driving range for their school games event. Andy was in charge this time, and Nick was in the coaching role, so they made a nice job of it! Very proud of them both.
Here's Nick's report:
This week we had a Tri - Golf Festival which was held on the driving range. About 50 kids aged between 9 and 10 years old came from different schools and took part in the different activities we had set up for them. They were split into different groups and with the help of the school teachers, let the games commence!
There were 10 stations where the kids were able to gain points by putting and chipping towards different targets with some obstacles in the way. The day turned out to be really fun as everyone began to enjoy themselves after having a bit of practice. The sun was shining and it was great to see everyone improve as the day went on. It was a great team effort by everyone. Me and Andy would like to thank all of the teachers and teaching assistants that helped, and also all of the support that has been shown by the members. It is great to have so many people support the next generation of golfers!
It started out rainy but by 10.30am the sun was out and the screams of fun and joy could be heard by me stood behind the till writing this newsletter! I love it when the children are here - they get so much fun out of it and it's an honour to be able to provide this. Thank you to all of you for allowing the use of your facilities to allow these children a great day out.
Thanks also to Debbie Casling who I invited to come down and help us out as we are still a little short staffed. Debs is always such a great support to me and the best mentor, thanks Debs.
Paul's News
The golf course has been growing like crazy and besides the Greens Staff spending their time sitting on mowers they have also been busy constructing the new rubber crumb path from the 13th white tee to the adjoining pathway. Great work chaps!

Do you feel your putter twist as you strike your putts? Most players would think this is a fault of the actual stroke but more often than not, it's a sign that you are aiming offline. When a player aims too far to the right of the target, the hands have to compensate as you strike the putt causing that alarming feeling of a loss of control. The biggest fault I see on a regular basis is set-up misalignment of both the putter head and the position of the body. Either gain some valuable feedback by asking your fellow playing partners to check your setup or use alignment aids when practicing your putting. By placing a club or alignment stick parallel left of the target line or even an line up practice putting mirror, you can ingrain good habits and get familiar on how a square set up should feel.
I would like to take time to thank Diana Thomas, who used to be one of our Lady Members here but who has gone back to her native Australia, for this yummy little top she recently brought back for baby Monaghan. This is cuteness overload! My little man an Australian lifeguard, I would love that in about 20 years' time! Di I don't know your address or I'd send you a card, but if any ladies are in contact with Di, please tell her I love it.
I would also like to thank Joan Rowe for these gorgeous hotel chocolat chill chocs. As you can see I did not wait two minutes to chill them in the fridge as the box is all frosty! Never mind, it will soon be empty!
Seriously I miss you all and will keep popping in.
So we have come to the end of this week's newsletter but stay tuned for the next instalment!
On that note, have a great week
Caren, Paul, Andy & Nick
