Hi everyone,

How lovely to be writing this on a beautiful weekend in the sunshine. That's more like it! What's been happening at the club this week?

Club news

On Tuesday, 20 June the ladies played their Medal and Divots Cup. The winner was a victorious Rose Hargreaves (nett 71) with Lynne Vowles in second (nett 71) and Alex Saunders in third (nett 72). Well done ladies!

Last weekend, the ladies Medal winner was Helen Wilson (nett 72) with Karen Rix in second (nett 72) and Vicky Reed in third (nett 76). Great golf!

On Saturday, the July Medal was played with a lovely big field of players. The Division one winner with a super smashing nett 63 was Rich Goldberg, snatching victory from Stuart Gillies (nett 68) who took second. Division two winner was Peter Betts with Ed Aston second. Many congratulations to you all.

What are the next fixtures coming soon?

  • Captain's Charity Day - Friday, 7 July.
  • Club Stableford and NGC Qualifier - Saturday, 8 July.
  • Ladies' Vets Muriel Button - Tuesday, 11 July.
  • Midweek Medal - Wednesday, 12 July.

Nice to feel summer warmth whilst we head into these awesome events!

Academy news

Next weekend sees Paul and Andy, alongside our smashing volunteers Sandra Gibbs and Mike Collins, coach the Actionnaires, a group of young blind people who enjoy a range of different activities with support from RNIB. More on this next week!

We are also nearing our HSBC Open hour, to be held on Sunday, 23 July at 10am. This FREE hour of coaching with our Academy is aimed at all beginners, adults and children, and all are welcome. Please encourage any beginners you know to come along! They get a FREE t-shirt too! (Although I'm not sure that's any enticement looking at it!).

They'll be lots of social media buzz about this as it's a Golf Foundation initiative in conjunction with the banking group. Look out for it, and our tweets on our Twitter feed @PaulMitchGolf! In fact why not follow us to see the latest from the PMGA!

This month also sees our Get into Golf Day on Saturday, 29 July at Nailsea's Millenium Park from 10am - 2pm. Again FREE to everyone and open to all, beginners welcome to try out before committing to anything, children welcome to come and have some fun with the guys - all this for free! We also have squash and lollies so worth coming just for that!

So now let's hand over to Paul for the weekly scoop from the Head Pro:

Chris Wood injured his wrist last week, managed to make the halfway cut in the French Open but had to pull out after the third round. It was a real struggle to even hold onto the club but after a trip to Leeds to see the European Tour doctor, he is hoping to be clipping balls once again this weekend. It's bad timing with The Open just two weeks away, but hopefully he'll be ready to go by then if not before this coming week at the Scottish Open.

April Medal winner John Oliver is my partner today at the Lombard Trophy Regional Qualifier at Parkstone Golf Club. I'm over golfed at the moment as I've played twice in the last couple of weeks so I'm feeling good about a positive result. Hopefully it's the year to get to the Grand Final in Portugal?

The Captain and I played against Geoff Clements and Craig Janes last Sunday in a Captain Pro Challenge and had a super game. We were two down after just four holes, but turned the match around following a par, par, birdie, par, birdie run to the 10th tee. Craig and Geoff won the 10th and 11th holes with some fantastic play including Craig's powered 6 iron from the side of the wall on the 11th, 180 yards over the trees to the front edge of the green. We managed to par the next four holes to close out an extremely entertaining match. Thanks very much to Craig for stepping in as a late replacement.

Noah Hessey played very respectable golf at the final qualifying for The Open at Woburn finishing in fiftieth position. Ian Poulter was one of the three qualifiers from Woburn and the standard of play was excellent. Well done Noah and hopefully you'll go one better next year?

On Tuesday, I met up with my PING Area Sales Representative who presented the next line of PING clubs. Following on from the popular 'G Series' is the new G400, which is due to be shipped to all U.K. accounts (including B&C) on Tuesday, 1 August. My account with PING has been upgraded, which means I am one of seven accounts within Wales and South West England to have the comprehensive PING Fitting Kit and demonstration drivers, fairways, hybrids, G400 driving irons and G400 irons.

The Rep actually got me excited! They have tested all of the leading brands against the G400 driver and the news is that for the first time ever, PING will officially have the straightest and longest driver ever made. They have reduced the drag effect of the clubhead at the bottom of the swing by 16%, produced a much thinner trampoline like clubface and removed weight from the crown and pushed it back towards the back of the clubhead making the G400 sweet-spot the largest hitting area ever produced! Whatever next!

I will be able to fit members for the new iron from next Tuesday when my iron Fitting pack arrives, although orders will not be delivered until the official launch in August. The driver will be around the £329 mark, but never forget we will price match against any competitors. Never feel afraid to ask.

Please click here to request a fitting.

Thanks Paul, great to be updated.

I am still on maternity leave and getting itchy footed as there's only so many Mr Kipling Bakewell tarts you can eat sat on the sofa before you crave tees, Mars duo and range tokens! I will be helping out again here and there, so I will see you all around. Monaghan and Cameron say hi too!

On that note, have a great week and support the Captain's charity!

Caren, Paul, Andy and Nick
