Hello everyone,

Let's start with the news from the club.

Last Tuesday, the Ladies played in the Open Invitational, which attracted a lot of lovely Lady guests to the fine establishment that is B&C. The winning team were Barbara Wrigley and Julia Wilson (nett 42) with Sue Beswick and Sally Falconer Hall in second (nett 40) followed by Sam Hill and Sarah Blake in third (nett 39). Many congratulations to you all and well done Barbara.

The Midweek medal was played last Wednesday. The winner was Nigel Bourne with an awesome nett 66, with Julian Meads in second on nett 69. Great golf guys!

We moved on to the weekend, where members played the Club Stableford. The winner was Alison Bracey with 41 points, followed by Kim Thompson with 40 points in second and Su Worthington in third on 39 points. Brilliant golf!

The winner of last week’s Suspension Bridge Cup was Jamie Butt, with Mark Walker in second and Oliver Whitehead in third. Well done boys!

Now we would just like to congratulate all three teams who play in BDGL - all three have qualified for promotion! What wonderful news and it is great to hear that the teams are doing so well.

Seniors Inter Club Championship – Quantock Stag Trophy

Bristol & Clifton Seniors section entered a team of eight to compete in the Seniors Inter Club Championship for the Quantock Stag Trophy.

This event in its fourth year was organised by Ray Hancock, Seniors Secretary for Enmore Park Golf Club Seniors and was held on Friday 18th August at Enmore Park Golf Club on a typical mixed British weather day – sunshine, rain, hail stones and variable winds.

Fifteen Clubs from across Somerset, Gloucestershire, Dorset and Devon entered teams of eight playing four ball better ball Stableford in a mind boggling modified Shotgun format with six starting holes and five four balls starting from each of the six tee positions. It all worked well, except perhaps commencing for Les, Steve, Ian and Bruce who started on the 7th a par three over water, possibly not the best hole. Apart from the weather the course was in excellent condition and the event was managed in a precise military fashion.

The eventual winners with a total score of 168 points were the Seniors from Wells GC. Bristol & Clifton had a creditable 151 points.

Many congratulations to Les and Linda Meaton who recently won the Epstein Cup, beating Susan Ellis and Dave Pope 3 and 2 in the final.

We would also like to say congratulations to Dickie Sprackman, who had a hole in one on 9th last Thursday 16th - well done!

So now it's time for….

We are also very excited to hear that the trust which funds our inclusion work is considering extend-ing our funding again. I am keeping everything crossed, as without that we will be unable to contin-ue all the work we do with disabled children and special schools, and what a shame that would be for all of us. Andy does the most inclusion work and he's just awesome with the kids - very proud of him.

We have also arranged for more work with the Actionnaires groups from the RNIB, as they were so pleased with the session Paul ran for them last time. So September sees a whole new series of in-clusions for blind children and Paul and Andy will certainly be busy.

Friday, 15th September 12pm-5pm - Callaway fitting day

The Callaway fitting day is fast approaching and the one to one appointment times are steadily filling. If you would like to try the new Epic irons, drivers, hybrids, wedges and Odyssey putters then this day will be just for you. Not only is Liam O'Sullivan a qualified PGA Golf Professional but he is Callaway's Head Custom Fitter and using TrackMan, will be offering his expert advice throughout the afternoon. I will also be in attendance to help fit and give technical recommendations. Book here to reserve a thirty minute appointment.

Last Thursday evening I held an hours Golf Clinic for Bristol Round Table. B&C member, Chris Rowe, who is the committee Chairman, asked me if I would like to do the session as he was keen to grow the golfing community within the charity group. We had a fantastic session and I was proud to introduce more newcomers to not only the game of golf but to experience the majestic feel of Bristol and Clifton. Hopefully many more future sessions to come?

By the way, quick mention! What an amazing achievement by not just one of our B&C teams but the First Team, Second Team and Third Team all gaining league promotion this year. With an influx of low handicappers over the past few years, our team golf is flourishing. Congratulations to all of the players and of course the Team Organisers.
