This week I am going to hand over to Paul for his report, so without further ado I give you Mr Paul Mitchell! (ta dah!) The Solheim Cup proved to be a spectacle of amazing golf not only from the winning American team but the Europeans. For a minute, it looked as if they may imitate the miracle of Medinah and pull off an extraordinary come back after the first two days of matches. It wasn't to be and yet again it was great to witness such a competitive but honourable golfing showdown. Ladies' golf is gradually gaining more exposure and it was great to hear that the CEO of the European Tour, Keith Pelly, has had talks with the US Tour Commissioner about how they can make the European Ladies Tour more successful. The players and Organisers have seen a demise over the past five years in sponsors and events where as the LPGA tour in America, continues to flourish with an Tour event pretty every week of the year, huge purses and all the mod cons and ad ons of a touring elite sports professional. It's not quite the Mayweather money or should I say embarrassingly 'TMT The Money Team', but the US Ladies Tour makes at least a dozen players well over a million dollars each year and it would be great to see the same thing happen in other parts of the world.
On the same vein of thought, it's the time of year when my South West England Performance Manager Chris Hart and I look through the applications for four new recruits to our South West England Under 18 Squad and fifty percent of the applicants are girls. Two of the girls are better than a scratch handicap and it shows the amount of emerging young female talent there is. The boys need to pull their fingers out! Paul
Thanks Paul. Our annual leave is nearly over till Christmas (oh I do love Christmas! What a big Kid I am!) and we see Nick soon depart for sunnier climes on his holidays. Whilst he is away the rest of us will be here for you all as usual! |
