How to hit the ball further I think we’d all like to hit the ball further and are constantly searching through the monthly magazines and YouTube offerings to find the magic key. We watch all these young fit athletes hit the ball tremendous distances and are told that it’s to do with strength, flexibility and youthful exuberance. There are a lot of perceived ideas out there that I think are complete rubbish! Yes it may well help these talented individuals hit the ball further but we have long forgotten ‘simple old’ eye hand coordination and hand speed. For me this is the basic component required before we add extra movements, strength, force, flexibility, the list goes on whilst people try to reinvent the wheel. Maybe I’m old fashioned with my thinking, but I’ve seen it most days with my own eyes and feel it in my own game. I would say that I am hitting the ball further than I ever have done, with little play and very little practice. I don’t go to the gym and am prone to the odd takeaway! Eeehhkk! So why? Yes I do have a very good understanding of my golf swing which is important. Yes, I have been swinging a club since my early teens and yes every now and then I may get another trained eye to take a look at it but essentially what we are trying to do is to swing a stick at a ball. If you think of the golf club as a lightweight stick with a bit of weight on the end and you simply swing the stick back as far as you can go and swish the stick as loud as you can as you swing right through to a completed follow through. |
