Hi everyone,
Another fine week, long may it continue!
Captain's Charity Day
Friday 11th saw the Captain's Charity Day being held, in aid of Azim's charity Young Bristol. There was a really big turnout for this, and it was wonderful to see so many people come together to support such a worthy cause. The event attracted 38 teams, was very successful and well received. Well done Azim, and thanks to everyone who participated to raise money for charity. Our very own Luke also won the afternoon Longest Drive! How brilliant is that?
Sea Captain's Trophy
On Saturday 12th, we held the Sea Captain's Trophy. This is a great competition because it raises extra funds for RNLI, and we all know how valuable this service is. The winner of the prize fund and this majestic trophy was Alan Thoy.
Failand Cup
On Sunday 13th the golf club also hosted the Failand Cup, and the winner of this was Nick Day. Well done Nick!
Ladies Medal
On Tuesday 8th, the Ladies Medal number 8 was held. The eventual winner was Claire Fairman, who incidentally won the first day of the Ladies James Cup a week or two ago. Great work Claire! In second place came Karen Rix. Well done Ladies.
Men's Medal
The Wednesday Medal on the 9th was won by Lewys Charles, with Alistair Balcombe taking second place. Alistair also had three (yes, three!) twos during the Wednesday Medal. This is fabulous news, well done Ali.
What's been happening at The Academy?
This week Andy and Luke took a little trip to Springboard Opportunity Group in Clevedon for me. Cameron used to attend this group for approximately three years, and it is a special needs playgroup for little pre schoolers under 5. I have fond memories from Cam's time there when he was 9 months old until he joined St Ursula's nursery , and as we are on a special needs provision drive, I thought it would be really nice to use some of our Golf Roots funding to deliver a session for the children at Springboard.
The really lovely thing about Springboard is that it is accepting of all needs, from autism to physical impairments. When you first have a disabled baby, it's fair to say you are a bit bewildered, and Springboard provides practical help and advice. And support. And tea and sympathy. Cracking! I am so grateful for their help.
Five of the little attendees came to take part and Luke and Andy delivered and dealt with the session beautifully. One of the little lovelies peed on our foam balls (ha ha ha I did laugh) so Luke was on rubber glove and disinfectant duty but my staff take it all in their stride. I love my guys, they're fab. Balls clean and equipment packed away, the boys have said they enjoyed it and it is truly rewarding to make a difference.
Paul finished the last of his four Ladies Only beginner groups on 11th. These have been really well received and we have set up further Ladies Only Beginner Group sessions for later in the season. Details are as always available from the Pro Shop.
We are also in the midst of a summer sale. There are many discounts to be had, so it is well worth coming to have a look.
Big Bag Trade In
We are also holding our Annual Big Bag Trade. For this promotion, you can bring in any old bag (Steady boys, yes I am expecting the jokes and ready for it!) and get £20 OFF the marked price on any of our selected models.
What's happening this week at the club?
Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th will see Ladies Club Championships taking place. Good luck to all Ladies competing, we look forward to hearing the results.
Tuesday 22nd will see the third of our disabled sessions in this first series of four. I will look forward to meeting all the attendees and welcoming them to this fine golf club. We really appreciate your support and patience whilst we close the range to make it safe and inclusive for all.
On that note I will love and leave you
Until next week..:)
