I hope you all had a lovely Easter, despite the rain closing the course and facilities last weekend. Not a great start to Spring but I’m sure we’ll have some warm sunshine soon. Whilst we are waiting, read the latest from the Club and Academy! Enjoy the read. |

The Kinnersley Cup final, one of the club’s winter knockout series, was played last week. The competitors were certainly going to put up a strong fight over the 36 holes, being of such high calibre: Nigel Berridge and Andy Hawkins against Andy Matthews and Tony Wright. The winners were Nigel and Andy Hawkins, winning 2/1. Many congratulations to you both. Thank you to Steve Cocks for the photo. Prolific scoring from Nick Wilson saw him beat Paul Robinson in the final of the Men’s Singles Winter Knockout, the Broke Cup. Nick slowly took control of the match from start to finish to win the Broke Cup for the first time. Some brilliant golf has seen Nick reduce his handicap from sixteen to eight in just under one year’s golf and after a 75 gross in the March Stableford, he could be a contender for Club Championships in June. Well played Nick! |

Congratulations must go to all of the finalists of the Winter Knockout Competitions. It is always a massive achievement to get to the finals and it’s unfortunate that there can only be one winner. Last Wednesday the Seniors held a Blue Course Stableford and the winner was Andy Bartlett on 36 points, Nick Bailey second on 36 points and Eddie Kitchen in third place on 35. Well done to you all. So what’s on the way? - April Medal - Saturday 7th April - sign up and pay online.
- Ladies’ Medal - Saturday 7th April - as above.
- Divots Roll Up - Sunday 8th April - contact Allan Slater for more information about the Divots.
- Ladies’ Medal - Tuesday 10th April.
- Seniors’ Stableford - Wednesday 11th April.
Moving on to the Academy now. |
This week, we were thrilled to receive an email from the Mayor of Bristol, Marvin Rees. The email was a lovely invitation for Paul to attend the reception of a new initiative. This is a launch of a website introducing a Hall of Fame for sporting achievements in Bristol through Bristol Sport. Paul has been selected due to his achievements and his contribution to sport in the area, and he will help launch the whole process. The reception is in May at Ashton Gate Stadium and we’re super proud and excited to be a part of this. |
We welcomed PGA Golf Professional Luke Collins to the Pro Shop last Sunday for his very first shift as our new Assistant Golf Professional. We are very fortunate to have Luke and he will be an asset to both the golf club and the teaching academy and already a number of you have personally welcomed him. Luke is a fully qualified PGA Golf Professional and a former member of the Men’s England International Amateur Team. He will continue to compete regularly in PGA events whilst developing his already accomplished coaching reputation and is extremely excited, as I am, in his new venture at B&C. I have sorely missed Caren in the Pro Shop and after scrapping through a manic year of 70 hour plus weeks, I was desperate for another pair of accomplished hands. Working alongside Andy and Nick, Luke is another full time member of staff who has a number of years’ experience in custom club fitting and is passionate in helping you find both the right clubs and the consistent golf swing. Contact us here for a custom club fitting session or to book a golf lesson. |

Competition prize credits/twos club - reminder Men, lady and senior competition prize money winners will be automatically credited to their personal Pro Shop Spending Account. The credit can be used on any purchase from the Pro Shop, range balls, club repairs and golf lessons with any of the Golf Professionals. We will continue to post a list of credits awarded in competitions on the Pro Shop noticeboard for your viewing. Two’s Club winners must physically claim their balls/winnings, as often players share with their playing partners. The lists stay on the board for six months, but please ensure that you claim your balls with a member of staff and indicate you have done so on the list. |
Finally a quick message from Nick; I am looking for a team to play in the Sherborne Pro-Am on Friday 18th May. I know a few people were interested in playing these events this year, so let me know asap if you can make it or for more information so we can put a winning team in! The deadline for entries is Wednesday 18th April.
Thanks Nick.

Put your name up in lights |
It only comes around once a year and it’s that time again - Masters week! The first Major of the year takes place at Augusta National this week, which we always take as a sign that the season is getting underway. With this in mind, we have one question for you: are you ready to play your best golf this year? |
Maximise your potential We've all sat looking at the honours boards in a clubhouse before, admiring the one name that appears to be on most and thinking 'wow, they must be pretty good!' Well, how good would it feel if that name up in lights was yours? If you come and speak to us we can talk about your strengths, weaknesses and goals for this season and look at the best way to help you achieve them, whether that’s a one-off fault-fixer lesson, regular sessions to aid your consistency or perhaps a look at your equipment. |
