Although it’s been a quieter start to the Spring in the Pro Shop, hardware sales over the years have consistently been on the up. The original perception of customers being able to get cheaper prices for golf hardware online has been slowly replaced by the opposite message from the green grass Golf Professionals. As a ten year member of Foremost Golf, the UKs biggest golf buying group, we can compete and generally beat online prices as well as offer unbiased, honest and expert advice. It’s great to see so many members use our services and we wanted to thank you all for your tremendous support. Many of you have popped in to say ‘hi’ to Luke and he has appreciated the warm welcome to the club. You may have seen him practicing or teaching and a number of you have already booked him for lessons and the feedback has been excellent. Luke was keen to share a couple of tips on how to cure your slice; Driver tips - Fight a slice? Tip - Keep your back to the target! - A slicer usually starts the downswing by forcing the right shoulder out towards the ball. Causing the swing to be steep and working the club across the ball from out to in.
- Make sure your right shoulder stays back, allowing the club to drop to the inside as you start down. Your swing though is to keep your back facing the target longer before the downswing.
- With the club dropping slightly inside on the downswing, you can swing out to the ball which lets your arms release to help square the clubface.

Woody flew to Morocco to play this week followed by China, two weeks at home, Belgium and Wentworth for the PGA Championships at the end of May.
We paid a visit to his Strength and Conditioning Coach and Golf Swing Biomechanist in Surrey last week for a team briefing and Chris was put through his paces for a whole morning. We were keen to gain an updated report on the body movement patterns during Chris’ swing after a number of improvements we have made since the start of working together back in a February.
The feedback from the computer swing data was very positive and has helped us to fine tune further. Myself, Chris and the team are gaining a cohesive understanding of necessary requirements and are constantly refining everything that we do, in order to simplify and gain consistency. There’s plenty to do but the challenge is to be able to speed up the process of improvement and success. The proof will be ‘in the pudding’ so to speak.
Andy carried out his second Gloucestershire County Ladies Team Coaching Day at the weekend and looked just the part. I noticed from afar that his organisation, calm demeanor, knowledge and experience was appreciated by the talented ladies who were enjoying the learning environment devised by Andy. Great coaching Andy!
Also congratulations to Nick with the Junior Open Coaching last Sunday. Not only did a Nick enjoy delivering the session but a number of parents have since mentioned to me, how much their children loved the session as Nick had taken them onto the deserted course, to play a couple of shortened holes as a group. We had a handful of orders for sets of junior clubs as a result of the inspired session by Nick. Well done Nick! Don’t forget that Junior sessions are open to all so please don’t hesitate to bring your budding youngsters along. Nick is looking for some Pro-Am playing partners and has this short message for you.
