Welcome everyone to this week's newsletter!
What a great week of sunshine we've had - almost Spring like this week, and we were so lucky to enjoy such great weather for our November Stableford.
Over 100 competitors competed to see who would be champion of the month. It was a colossal challenge with so many in the field, but in Division Two, Mark Sercombe's talent shone through and he won with an impressive 41 points. In second place was Robert Jones with 40 points followed by consistent contender, Matthew Heappey on count back.
Division one was an extremely closed affair with three players tied at the top with 38 points. Winning on countback was
Richard Brown and in second place, our Club Chairman,
Peter Bell.
Peter Scott was third pushing
John Nelson Smith out of the prize money into fourth.
In the Ladies Saturday Competition, the winner by two points was Sarah Cheetham with 36 points from Jayne Chard.
Fantastic Saturday results guys, congratulations to you all
Captain v Vice Captain
Sunday saw our Captain V Vice Captain competition with a 1pm shotgun start. It was a colder affair than Saturday but a good time was had by all. Following the match, it was great to see such a great turn out for the Club Presentation evening. Well done to all the winners and particularly well done to Matt Windo who is the Player of the Year for 2014.
Paul & Azim took on the mighty challenge of a Captain Pro challenge versus the formidable pairing of John Pajak and Ian Roberts last week. Ooh this was a real battle and at times, it seemed as if all was lost. However with a massive amount of determination and courage, Paul and Azim pulled themselves back, from 3 down with three to play, to actually halving the match. Wooooooo hooooo Mitchy Magic and Dinani Durability must have been in strong supply! Nonetheless well played John and Ian for putting up a major challenge and I am glad it ended halved. You all deserved to win, so you all did!
What else is happening in the Academy?
As Halloween has now passed, our thoughts turn to Christmas and more essentially early Christmas offers! I would like to take a minute to tell you about some exciting new things in store.
Titleist Ball Promotions
We are running a Titleist promotion whereby if you buy two dozen Pro V1 or Pro V1X, you become the proud owner of a Titleist performance mesh baseball cap absolutely FREE!
We are also selling Titleist personalised balls in readiness for Christmas. Usually you cannot buy just one dozen personalised balls, but with this new promotion you can do just that. Choose the Titleist dozen you want, add your personalisation and Bob's your uncle (I have two Uncle Bob's so Bob's are your uncles!). They are delivered straight to the Pro Shop to make life easier for you to collect and pay. What could be easier?!
However please note that Titleist won't print any obscenities or rude things (that's Paul's Christmas present out the window then…)

Frosty Fox Promotion
Lastly we are doing an awesome Frosty Fox promotion. This lovely company makes fleece snoods and stretchy doofers, which make really lovely stocking fillers. As an early Christmas incentive, if you buy one snood at £12.99 you can buy another snood or doofer at HALF PRICE. Two Frosty Fox items for under a twenty note can't be bad!
The snoods are suitable for men and Ladies, Paul has a grey one and I have one with stars on it, and these have been invaluable to the coaching staff here. As you can imagine we are out in all weathers and it makes sense to have something warm you can rely on. I am currently in talks to get some crested, so watch this space!
An evening with Dr Karl Morris
Dr Karl Morris tickets for the seminar here at B&C on March 11th are also a great idea and selling fast so please come and buy a ticket to see the world's top performance coach in action.
We will be featuring more Christmas present ideas in the next newsletters as we start the descent into the festive season. We will be running our traditional mulled wine and mince pie feast on weekends in December, and we will be costumed as usual so keep an eye out for Santa, Santa, Santa, Santa and Mrs Santa!
More on this as we move closer.
Christmas returns policy for items purchased
This year we have changed how we process items purchased as presents and returned. We are not refunding items for cash as we prefer an exchange policy, or we can refund to your account. You will also need to keep your receipt for all purchases in future. The reasoning behind this is that we will be going into our post xmas sale period, and if you have any item to be returned, we want you to be refunded with the amount you actually paid. Without a receipt, we can only exchange for the current sale value. We have had issues with lack of receipts in the past and this way means we avoid any difficulties with sale items being returned and exchanged for full price. So keep your receipts please!
We will be providing FREE Christmas wrapping on items in the pro shop purchased for gifts. It may be an idea to see me to get them wrapped! Not sure how skillful in the wrapping department the other pro shoppers are, but I will certainly make a good job of it! We will also be giving out Christmas carrier bags this year for purchases in December.
Disabled Golf
We did not have an official disabled golf session this week, but one of our disabled attendees, Phil, came for a little one to one lesson with Andy. He was able to go to the chipping green and have a quiet lesson on his own. He was also able to travel in style on one of our golf club buggies, which he enjoyed immensely. Phil has asked me when he can play on the course, and I explained that he might be jumping the gun a little but I hope in time that he can enjoy the Academy course on the bottom practice ground. He is a pleasure to coach, he brings his own clubs which his friend gave him (awwwwww) and we look forward to seeing him in our next session on Saturday 8th.
Don't forget that the season of Pro Shop Stablefords is almost upon us. Keep competitive even when there are no club medals. Details are available on the golf club website or call the Pro Shop.
Woody Update
Chris' wrist is slow on the mend and he is uncertain to compete in next weeks Turkish Airlines Open. The injury couldn't have come at a worse time having to miss most of the Final Series on the Race to Dubai. Alongside a blow to his back pocket and missing events with no cut and double money, world ranking points will now be missed. If he isn't fit to play next week, it looks as if he could be pushed out of the top sixty and therefore will miss the final event. It's now three weeks since spraining his wrist, although there was a concern that there could be a hidden fracture? He will find out for sure this week. Not quite what he wanted and you can imagine how frustrating the past three weeks have been!
Thank you Alyson
In the Pro Shop we are always thrilled when someone brings us a treat. This week a most delicious cake landed on my desk, courtesy of a lovely lady, Alyson Matthews. Paul has been coaching Alyson in his Ladies' beginner groups as we continue our Get Into Golf exploits. The cake was DELICIOUS! And it is now GONE! Alyson you are amazing and we thank you so much. We are also here to continue to support you and we are delighted to coach you.
Andy is now on holiday in Mellon Udrigle (Scotland) this week and PGA residential week for the following week, so you will not see much of him for two weeks. The rest of the gang are here so pop in and see us!
Have a great week boys and girls
Caren, Paul, Kris, Luke and Andy
