The whole idea is to raise money for the charity during Purple day, which is world epilepsy day. We have taken this one step further (doesn’t sound like me whatsoever...at all.....!!) and we are selling cakes for SIX purple days to raise funds for night SATS monitors. These monitors alert parents of epileptic children if their child stops breathing, or starts breathing erratically, hugely reducing the risk of SUDEP, which tragically Daisy died from when she was just six years old. The charity also funds ketogenic dieticians for children whose refractory epilepsy simply doesn’t respond to drug therapy, like Daisy.
To truly understand what The Daisy Garland, and indeed we, are all trying to achieve, this video was produced by the charity to explain the story behind it and describes one beautiful little girl’s struggle with an evil disease with no cure. Be warned, it’s a real heartbreaking watch and I can’t without the biggest lump in my throat. Regardless it’s a vital message and a vital charity helping children like mine with epilepsy, saving their precious lives. The Daisy Garland has raised over £2.2 million pounds so far, providing monitors and working with the NHS to fund 25 full time ketogenic dieticians in hospitals for epileptic children around the UK. Isn’t that just incredible?
