I hope you’re well. I am a terrible one for hating the cold and wearing too many layers of clothing whilst coaching on the Driving Range, but over the weekend the temperatures dropped and the biting wind was chilling to the bone.
Often with the appearance of being overdressed, I regularly hear from members the cry of ‘Paul, are you just about to go skiing?’. I can totally appreciate how I would look overdressed. After all, a golfer walking in the warm sunshine and wandering along the tenth hole, may even be wearing shorts and a short-sleeve polo shirt? I hate feeling cold when I coach as I know how it slowly eats into my concentration and for that reason, I've never been too bothered how I might appear. I found myself ‘on the other foot’ at the start of lockdown, as I carried out my first solo ‘shop’ at the supermarket. Whilst I prepared to jump out of my car and grab a trolley to carry out the weekly food shop, in my possession was a protective face mask that Caren had instructed me to wear whilst shopping. As I pulled up in the car, the daunting thought of a ‘masked shop’ felt awkward and new to me. I caught myself looking around the supermarket car park, evaluating whether anyone else was wearing a mask. Running through my mind were silly thoughts: Am I going to feel stupid? Are other men wearing a mask? Are they younger or older? Will I stand out with my mask on? I soon realised how ridiculous my initial thoughts were and how wearing a mask wasn’t about how I looked to others. It was important to try to protect myself and by wearing the mask I would be proud to also help protect everyone around me. My ‘mask’ experience inspired me to consider sourcing face masks that could benefit everyone and particularly at the time, they were in short supply. By complete coincidence, a lady pupil of mine, who had previously attended beginner golf classes, enquired to see if I was interested in buying a new line of Italian face masks. I looked through the mask brochure and really liked how the mask looked attractive and well made. I sensed the design priority for safety and the benefit of the soft fabrics used, making the mask an extremely comfortable and ergonomic fit to the face. Another selling point was the fact that the masks can be reused for up to two years, as long as washing instructions are followed between uses. I now have a small bundle available for sale, in various sizes for men and ladies in three different colours; navy, black and pink. Priced at £11.99, I think you’ll like them.
In the meantime, stay safe and enjoy the rest of this week's read. |
