Greetings from Paul Mitchell Golf Academy
Bristol & Clifton Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

Hi everyone,

We hope you have all been having a great week so far. I have lots and lots to tell you all so if you're sitting comfortably, then I shall begin...

My lovely staff are always amazing me. This week saw Kristian receive the results of his first assignment as part of his PGA training, and he got a DISTINCTION! I am so pleased for you Kris, you are a great lad and you work hard so you deserve great results. I have to say you have been a welcome addition to an already fabulous team and I am excited to see if you achieve trainee of the year like Andy did.

Andy played rugby for Old Bristolians once again on Saturday against Gordano. Once again his team won, 44-17. It is so pleasing that both he and Luke have moved so far away from their homes to work for us but both have created such a nice life here. I'm so proud of all of them, they are fine young men!

This week was a mixture of tearjerker and a happiness bomb! If I wasn't crying I was ecstatic, and I'm surprised nobody has sewn arms into the back of my uniform yet! This week saw a further two donations to our disabled coaching funding. I think I told you last week that we are now providing coaching for five special schools in Bristol and North Somerset, and my aim is to access every special school in the Bristol and Somerset area to let these amazing kids try their hand at golf. The issue is always finding funding. We are full of enthusiasm and drive, and it's the lack of money which prevents us giving even more of our time. This is no longer an issue for the next few months, as we received an incredible and considerable donation from Joan Little, in memory of her wonderful husband Frank who sadly passed away last year. This absolutely blindsided me and I cannot thank Joan enough for this. We can now go into at least another four special schools to teach profoundly disabled children. I am truly touched and so grateful for this help Joan, you're amazing.

I would also like to thank Mike Biggs and also the seniors' Section for their amazing donation to the fund as well. Mike split the money raised from Seniors' Stablefords and other raffles between The Daisy Garland and our disabled golf sessions. I owe all of you such a debt of gratitude. You are a very special bunch of people indeed and I hope you know how much this means to me and how much it means to the children who can benefit from our sessions. I love you guys.

Okay so I'm going to swallow the lump in my throat and continue! It gets me every time. I am a big old softie inside (but don't tell anyone, I will deny it!!)

Apart from our work with disabled children and adults, this year our academy has chosen two charities to support and fundraise for. As usual I will be giving half of any charity funds we raise throughout the year to The Daisy Garland. Recently I also heard some news which had encouraged me to share what we raise between Daisy Garland and another charity, CCAA. Sandra and Mike Gibbs' granddaughter Lily was born with juvenile idiopathic arthritis. Much like Cam's epilepsy, the symptoms of this can wax and wane, but recently the poor little love has been going through a deterioration spell and has had to resort to using her wheelchair again because she is in so much pain in her spine. This made me really really sad and I knew what I had to do. I have mild arthritis in my fingers and thumbs, and the pain drives me mad sometimes so I cannot imagine what this little girl is going through.

I have signed up to do something really rather crazy, and I would like to ask you if you can sponsor me. I will be doing the Bath of Baked Beans Challenge at B&C on Friday 26th June 2015, starting at 9am and emerging from the Orange pellets at 3pm! I have my own Virgin Money giving site to support the Daisy Garland, and to sponsor me please just click on the link below. This will also be on our Twitter feed @PaulMitchGolf and on our website PaulMitchellPGA.co.uk so if you can spare even just £1 we can help epileptic children and children with chronic arthritis to live a better life. On the day I will also have a collecting tin for raising CCAA funds, so both charities will benefit from my utterly bonkers event.

Click here if you would like to donate.

I am concerned that my legs may take on a tangerine glow (I'd like to think St Tropez fake tan but probably in reality more Jaffa orange!) but it is a small price to pay. I am also welcoming any donations of tins of beans so if you have some you don't want (I'm not brand choosy, so let's 'ave your Lidl's! With plenty of beans I could then sit in the bath "Aldi"! Sorry, that joke was shocking, a bit half-baked really...) please donate those in the Bean Amnesty! Please drop anything you don't want into the pro shop.

Now over to Paul for his bit of the weekly news.

Another new year and plenty of New Year's resolutions flying around! One of mine as always is to get on a diet as well as helping my pupils to achieve their goals. Chris Wood should be back from injury this week after fracturing his left wrist back in October and fingers crossed, will be playing in India in February as his first tournament of the season. It's been a very long three months for Chris especially having to watch Bristol City on a weekly basis. Come on City!

As an academy, our New Year's resolution is to help you guys with your games and we will be running special offers on coaching throughout the year, so keep your eyes peeled and your noses to the ground. Andy McGreevy and Luke Fraser are both offering an unlimited deal on lessons right now. For people looking for one months unlimited lessons then £59 will get you just that or for longer, £99 for two months and £139 for three months unlimited lessons. Hurry as all lessons must be used by the end of April.

Kristian Mowatt has also impressed me with some great coaching knowledge and has completed his first years residential at the PGA headquarters and as you've already heard that he achieved a distinction in his first piece of coursework. Well done Kris! Kris is also available for lessons at just £17.50 for 30 minutes.

And of course, don't forget me! I love to help anyone improve their game. It's what I love to do! Why not book a lesson?

We are really excited by the new stock starting to arrive for the spring. Over the next six weeks or so, we will be receiving all of the new ladies and men's FootJoy shoe range and there are some great surprises in store with a completely new line of shoe to compete with the popular DNA.

The Callaway stock is slowly appearing now that my account has been activated and I must admit the range oozes style and performance. We will be able to offer a comprehensive fitting service with the Opti Fit Bag which will soon arrive meaning we can offer as good a fitting analysis over anyone else in the country.

We will be fully trained fitting technicians for Callaway, Titleist, PING and.....drum roll..........Scotty Cameron putters! Hooray!! We have been selected as a 'Key Cameron' authorised fitting account. This means that come March, we will be stocking a demonstration putter in every single style of Scotty Cameron putter. All lengths, grip sizes and head styles will be available to try for FREE and of course, if you wanted a fitting at the cost of £25, this would be deducted if you decided to make a purchase.

Time well spent would be to attend the mind seminar with Dr Karl Morris in March. I am just about to start studying to become a Master Mind Coach, so for me, it's head into the books, pen to paper and look forward to seeing Karl on Wednesday, 11 March at 7pm. I have sold fifty tickets to date but there are more spaces to fill. Why not come along? There's no better way of spending £20 on improving your golf game.

Finally I would like to thank John Savva for Cam's Santa chocolates and Mrs Mann for another delicious choccy treat. Cam loves sharing so I am getting fatter by the second!

I am the luckiest person to work with you great people - I wouldn't get this at any other golf club, I know that, so I hope you know I appreciate you

On that note, it's farewell from me for another week so enjoy

Caren, Paul, Luke, Andy & Kris
