Who are our Club Champions...
The fantastic weather and beautifully presented golf course was the perfect setting for both the Men's and the Ladies Club Championships at the weekend.
The Men's competition went to the wire with John Oliver winning the Men's Club Championship for the very first time with a brilliant final round of a gross 75 for a two round 154 total. Five players tied two shots behind with a 156 two round total, in count back order; 2nd Matt Windo, 3rd Tom Sproull, 4th Chris Rowe, 5th Liam Rice and 6th Richard Goldberg. The Men's Club Championship nett competition was also a close affair but with a second round of a nett 68 and a two shot victory (142) was an extremely thrilled, nine handicapper Will Lynde. Five players also tied with a nett 144 two round total counting back their final positions as follows; 2nd Richard Bricknell, 3rd Sam Butcher, 4th Derek Kilgallon, 5th Liam Rice, 6th Jamie Butt. Alex Saunders steadily eased her way into an overnight lead with a first round gross 71 playing in the Ladies Club Championship. Ebonie Lewis was just one shot behind Alex after round one with young Issy Hopkins a further five shots afield. It was Issy who came flying out of the blocks on Sunday with an impressive four under par front nine but Alex was just rock solid playing beautiful golf and nontulanctly knocking the ball around in a gross three under par score for an impressive total of gross five under par!
Ebonie Lewis was frustrated with her second round of 76 to finish in second on a two round total score of two over par. Issy's potential course record round was faultered with a double bogey at the 11th hole but managed to steady the ship and finishing her second round with a one under par 72. The ladies nett Championship results looked a similar affair and Alex's brilliant seven under total won by four shots from nett runner up Issy Hopkins.
What a brilliant Club Championship weekend at the golf club and our congratulations go out to our newly crowned Club Champions John and Alex but also to the close contenders and all competitors who braved the championship tension and almost unbearable heat. |
