Greetings from Paul Mitchell Golf Academy
Bristol & Clifton Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

Hi everyone,

Oh I do like to be beside the seaside, oh I do......damn it's raining!

Well what a week it's been again, the jewel in the crown being our lovely Karl coming to talk to us about gaining five shots. Over to Paul for his report on this great evening at the club!

Hi all,

What a fantastic evening we had last Wednesday at the Karl Morris seminar! When I booked it in November, I expected a busy evening and I was right, we had to turn people away at the last minute as we simply couldn't squeeze any more into the Clubhouse Lounge. Almost 100 members, including a couple of selected handfuls of guests from other golf clubs attended and we all quite simply had an inspirational evening. What a Presentation by Karl, it was awesome and it was great to see the members buzzing with ideas as they left for home. Even better for the guests from other clubs, it was a great advert and showcased how good a social event Bristol and Clifton Golf Club can provide. Thanks to everyone for attending and thanks for such positive feedback. The next instalment will be around the same time next year when Karl will present 'The Scoring Zone', tickets will go on sale in November.

Look out for Demonstration and Fitting Days coming up soon. These days are a perfect opportunity to come and get fitted for some fantastic golf equipment, with the help of not only myself and the team, but a highly skilled company fitting specialist.

Titleist Demo Day (Just turn up, no appointments for this one) Wednesday, 15 April 12-4pm

PING Fitting Day (appointment only) Wednesday, 6 May 1-5pm

Callaway Fitting Day (appointment only) Friday, 26 June 12-4

Come and talk to us in the pro shop or click here to get in touch if you would like to book your custom fitting slot.

Wedge fitting Event in association with Titleist

This will be a on first come first serve basis for six members to have a 45 minute short game lesson with me and a Vokey SM5 Wedge trial from Richard Nelsey from Titleist. The event will cost £10 per person but each member will receive a sleeve of three Pro V1 golf balls worth £12. What I call a no brainer!! More news on the date hopefully next week and details on how to book.

Click here to find out more about the cracking SM5 range.

Titleist 4 for 3 ball promotion

I'm sure you guys have seen the Titleist Pro V1 ball promotion currently running until the 15th April. Buy three dozen personalised balls and get a dozen for FREE. It's the cheapest way of buying Pro V1's and the personalisation is FREE of charge during the offer period. I must admit, the new Pro V1s have been spotted on sale in many shops for £50 per dozen but we sell them at £44 to compete with local shops. Even better, if you do order the three dozen on the deal, they are priced at just £42.99 each, which means with the free dozen, they will work out at just over £30 each.

If you are tempted you can place an order via my website by clicking here, or come and talk to us in the pro shop.

As a Platinum Ball Partner with Titleist, I am able to set up any business ball logos free of charge as normally this would incur a £50 set up fee. It's a really nice way of promoting your business and even better, the business can pay for your years supply of golf balls. Oops I shouldn't really be saying that!

Come and see us in the pro shop, or click here to get in touch if you are interested.

Back to Caren.

Thanks Paul. The one thing that struck me particularly, from my position on the sign in desk, was how natural Karl was with everyone. What a cracking bloke!

This week there was no major club competition, but we ran our Pro Shop Stableford. The winner of this was Roger Speakman with 39 points and in second place was Tom Dyer with 36 points. Congratulations guys!

Our Ladies' Captain Rose has this report on some great B&C wins!

"The Ladies Mail on Sunday team have beaten The Bristol in their Away match. Well done to the team -Paula Crabtree, Susan Ellis, Sandra Gibbs, Karen Price and Lizbeth Jensen and we wish them good luck going forward.

The Ladies v Seniors match took place this week and the weather was glorious. Congratulations to the Seniors who won the Teapot in what was a most enjoyable mornings golf!

Very pleased to report that Marion Jackson and Julia Bailey beat Clevedon yesterday, away, in the first round of The Daily Mail Foursomes. We wish them good luck in the second round."

Rose Hargreaves

Thanks Rose, another great golfing report. Well done to you all, wowee!

So whassup in da hood?! There's no point in pretending I'm cool when I'm quite clearly not, so I will tell you what we did this week in "Carenspeak"!

The boys took on the mighty challenge of a new school to teach, and they smashed it. Andy and Kris visited Baytree special school in Weston-super-Mare and taught twenty of their pupils at the school in a double session lasting 90 minutes. The children were of varying ability but all enjoyed the session. They are hosting the school this week on our driving range at B&C and it is great to give these lovely kids a different and authentic experience.

I am in the process of trying to set a date for September for a Super Sixes festival. This is an adapted festival, made more basic and more achievable for full inclusion. I have to admit that I am petrified by the idea of doing this. It's a challenge to get several special schools together and let them play the festival but I am a huge believer in trying. If I don't try, I will never know if I can do it, and I don't believe in not trying (unless it's flying ha ha ha....oh and spiders ha ha.....and, um, motorways.....and, oh dear, insects.........and…!!!)

We are nearing Easter and the Easter Tri Golf and egg hunt, and after Easter we start coaching Cam's school again. Many of Cam's friends at Belgrave have dyspraxia, sensory integration and autistic spectrum difficulties, so we are honoured to play our part in offering a safe and gentle sport which will help their balance and body skills. They will be coming to B&C again, and we look forward to welcoming them in April.

As for me, I have been in the kitchen again this week. The poor slow cooker has been doing double time (without pay I hasten to add!) and made lentil and cauliflower casserole from a Weelicious recipe adapted by Tori Avey. I have also made gnocchi with roasted tomato and Goats cheese sauce. And I wonder why I'm fat!!! You don't see me cooking lettuce do you?! I'm just big boned (ha ha).

I also sat levels three and four of my British sign language course, learning how to sign basic questions like what is your name? I also learnt some place signs. It is fascinating, and both level assessments gave me a 100% score again. Woooooo hooooo! I did teach the lads one or two signs, but it all rapidly became funny and vulgar (doesn't sound like us at all....) so I decided to quit whilst I was ahead. As I will be offering some FREE coaching sessions to Elmfield deaf school this year, they'd better learn quickly!

The next few weeks will see me approach two new special schools for FREE taster coaching sessions. One school is dedicated to children with separation anxiety and related issues so I am really excited to help out.

This week Paul and little Cam took the food I have donated as part of the Bath of Beans challenge down to the Julian Trust Night Shelter in St Paul's, which benefits local homeless people. The lovely people who work there invited Paul and Cam into the shelter to see what they do. Cam chatted the ears off the poor man who showed them around apparently, I can't imagine who gave him that trait! There are twenty beds and the doors open at 8.30pm, where the first twenty people through the doors get to stay on one of those beds overnight. They will have been queuing at this point for at least four hours to get in. Paul and Cam were shocked and humbled by this, and I wish I had been able to go to see where our donations were helping those less fortunate. I would love to do more to help this charity in the future.

Quick thank yous!

John S for lovely grapes and blueberries - yum! And also thank you to all of you who keep donating to the bath of beans. The total is rising and I'm really so grateful, but if you wish to donate and haven't yet, sponsor me at UK.virginmoneygiving.com/CarenJasmineMitchell or put your name on the sponsorship form in the pro shop. You guys are awesome! Just to remind you what we're collecting for here's some pictures!

Onwards and upwards you lovelies, cheery bye for now!

Sunderland - Never Weather Beaten

Never Weather Beaten

Whilst it’s true that you’ll start to see spring/summer 2015 shirts arriving in stores soon, with our weather it’s always handy to be able to call on a quality set of waterproofs all year round.

One reason why we stock the Sunderland Dolphin Fluke waterproofs is that they work with the golf swing instead of creating that feeling of restriction. There are many other features and benefits that make this set of waterproofs so appealing, so watch our video to find out more.
