Hi everyone,
The weather was not kind to us again on Saturday, but many people still turned out for the Matt Hawker Anniversary Trophy. Despite gale force winds (poor Mark Incledon nearly flew away when cleaning his shoes after his round!) and rain hammering down in the morning, a good field of competitors took on their opponents and the winner of this Stableford was Steven Ford, with Steve Robinson in second place and Michael Poole in third. Congratulations guys!
We have also had a great week in our Ladies' Section. Last week the Ladies competed for the Ladies' Captain vs Ladies' Vice Captain match. Our congratulations to the Lady Captains' Team, who won by one match. Well done to you all!
Chairman of the Greens Committee Carey Ashworth had a hole in one on the 7th last Friday! Great news and congratulations to Carey. Carey generously popped a bottle of scotch on the bar for everyone to partake. As I was working, I unfortunately didn't have any (what do you mean that's a first?!)
The Bristol and Clifton's Got Talent evening went well, with the ever so fabulous Danny Savage and Chrissie winning the event. These two lovely people are such good friends of the Pro shop and we are so pleased to hear you won!
So what's happening this week in our academy?
Woody had a great run of things in Morocco. It all went a bit Pete Tong on day three with the final hole with a score of 74, but he is a determined fighter. He ended up in 3rd place which is absolutely fantastic. Off to China in a few weeks for the next competition, but plenty of hard work to be done before then.
We haven't been resting on our laurels this week, we have been busy preparing for our Easter Tri Golf and Target Golf event on Sunday, 5 April at 11am. There are still spaces available if you would like to bring a tiny tot or a junior along! Please book with the pro shop on 01275 393031 or email us at bristolandcliftonproshop@gmail.com.
Kris has started his Tri Golf Groups on selected Saturday mornings and it has been a pleasure to see some tiny little lads come along to enjoy the fun golf games. If you have a grandchild or child who would like to come along, please do ask any of us in the shop for more details or check the junior Noticeboard for the full list of junior activities.
Kris also ran the last of our sessions with the remedial school pupils at Lansdown Park. We did have some interesting sessions with these children, they have an awful lot of problems, but it is a testament to Kris that he wanted to continue to coach the pupils even when they swore at him and spat on the floor. Kris I am proud of your determination, and I was thrilled to receive an email from the teacher at Lansdown, praising all my staff for their coaching skills, their patience and the way they handled the children's behaviour. Congratulations guys, great job.
Luke has been very busy arranging a series of Seniors' coaching dates on all aspects of the game, and this is currently being promoted on the seniors' board. If you would like to attend, please sign up on the board or pop in and see Luke for more information. Group coaching is a great way to learn in a supportive environment with your friends, and it keeps the cost of lessons down too. Bargain!
I am meeting with my county development officer on the 7th, to arrange becoming a Get into Golf official funded centre once again for 2015-16. I am thrilled we have been reselected and will continue to hold our Get Into Golf days and promote both beginner and junior golf activities for the foreseeable future.
Cameron has broken up for Easter holidays now, but when he goes back to school, he will be enjoying our FREE coaching which is being provided to his school from April 23rd. I have now approached another three special schools to see if they would like to take us up on some FREE taster golf sessions. We don't pause for breath here y'know!
I also finished my beginner level British Sign Language course and have received my certificate. The really interesting thing about this is you really do need to keep practising it or it does literally disappear out of your brain. I am going to sign up (no pun intended!) for the next level after the summer when it starts to get darker and horrible again. The summer will keep me far too busy with our coaching planning, delivering sessions and writing to educational provisions to progress the sign language too far. I am a believer in doing things well and I want to have more time to devote to this than rushing it!
We have also had our new photos put up on the sign outside the shop. I have to be honest, we do all look like a large wanted poster. I cried laughing when Ian James said Luke looked like the honey monster due to the position the photo was taken! I am in central position and I wish I had brushed my hair before I was snapped! Never mind, they all have our names on and this helps new members get to know us.
My thank yous this week are for Annette Murfin, who brought me in a stack of great clubs to be used for our disabled sessions. We tend to use Tri golf and golf Xtreme equipment for the sessions, and sometimes we use unihoc equipment for taller children. These clubs will be perfect for one of our taller disabled pupils, so thanks so much Annette. We are very grateful.
I would also like to thank Joan Little who brought Cam a chocolate bunny. Like everything else which is food based, it was snaffled up in two seconds and met with an acidic end in Cam's gut! Joan you shouldn't have, it's a pleasure to help out, but we are very grateful to you. Cam loves an Easter egg or chocolate bunny! (So do I)
Cam also came home from school with his artwork for this term....this "beautiful" (ahem) sculpture of a runner. Please don't have nightmares (ha ha wouldn't want to bump into this bird on a dark night! Cam's Learning Support Mentor tells me it's a woman, not Usain Bolt which I described it as!)
I would also like to thank Sarah Cheetham for giving me some lovely shampoo, it smells divine dahlings and I hope to get a shine like a freshly polished table! Thanks Sarah for being my hair care expert!
This week I have been doing my usual shenanigans in the kitchen (God help us all), and I still haven't managed to destroy anything. I consider it more luck than judgment. This week's offerings were actually deeeeeelicious and we had tofu, celery and apricot sausages (sounds appalling I grant you, even I wavered a little, but they were actually awesome!) and sweet corn and roasted red pepper frittata. I have been fully vegetarian for 28 years now (I eat nothing with a face! Not even fish) and it gets a bit boring to eat nut roasts.
I also think I have the cutest Mason Cash mixing bowl in the world! And yes it's pink.
We now have the Spring/Summer ladies JRB clothing in store, as well the Glenmuir ladies' and men's collections. Nike men's crested shirts and cover ups, new Sunderland Vancouver waterproofs, Glenmuir lambswool sweaters, seniors' section clothing, Stromberg men's trousers and so much more are all in store right now.
We have also started our Litepower lithium battery trade in so come in and take advantage of all these lovely new things we have! Don't forget, we always price match so if you see it somewhere else we will do the same price for you here.
Click here to find out more about our great battery trade in.
Next week we will feature an instructional by Luke, so look out for our continued musings next week!
Sayonara sweetpeas!
