Hi Everyone,
Azim Dinani is now our new Bristol and Clifton Captain after Driving in last Saturday. With a strong wind into his face, nerve jangling hands, and wobbly knees, he managed to hit a great drive in front of a large crowd surrounding the first tee.
After an extremely positive AGM on the Friday night, 150 members competed in the Drive-In and braved the bitter cold, occasional hail and breezy conditions. An amazing score of 44 points was posted during the morning shotgun, and this was not to be beaten. Young Jack Pring and new member James Mitchell, played brilliantly and took advantage of the slightly easier earliier conditions by winning by a huge margin of 5 shots in the better ball competition.
Richard Bromilow and John Nelson-Smith scored a solid 39 points in the morning to finish second on countback from Ian James and Mark Sercombe. In the ladies competition, Su Worthington and Alison Leatt pipped Anne Pope and Helson Wilson by one point with a very good score of 38 points in the afternoons high winds. Azim provided some wonderful prizes for the competitors which were kindly received, and many funds were raised for charity with the optional charity package. Well played to everyone, and all the best to Azim in his year as Club Captain.
I did manage to make a slight boo boo during the Captains' Drive-In, as I totally forgot to give out raffle tickets for people who entered the optional sweep. The captain decided to make a closed draw which we drew earlier this week. Congratulations to the winners of a lovely bottle of wine each: -
Tony Parker
Gareth Ronson
Peter Simpson
The Bottles of wine are waiting in the Pro Shop for our 3 lucky draw winners.
I would also like to congratulate Tim Pople on gaining a hole in one a few weeks ago... Well done Tim!
I must make a quick announcement about the use of the Driving Range. Some users of the range step out from the bays to hit from the grass. I do have to sadly inform you all that this is simply not allowed on the grounds of health and safety. It is highly dangerous to stand in front of an area where balls are being hit, so please stay in the bays.
So what else has been happening in the academy?
Andy's ladies' golf coaching groups are almost all full, sign up for the last few places on the Noticeboard. Andy is away on annual leave this week, but will be back next week!
Fashion show is less than a week away... still time to sign up. The show is FREE, but if you would like supper, it costs £7 per person, and you can sign up on the board in the Ladies'. Caren is already very nervous!!
We all had our official staff photos taken by Bob Bennett last week, so look out for our new mugshots around the place.
