Greetings from Paul Mitchell Golf Academy
Bristol & Clifton Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

Hi everyone,
Rain Cap
Welcome to the next four weeks of murky weather that symbolises a British Summer holiday! I've got my wellies and my makeshift canoe made out of yogurt pots, are you prepared?!

Ha do you remember those old Ladies' plastic fold out hair covers that looked a bit like these? My Nan, god bless her soul, used to wear one of these, and I may well have to partake if it rains much more!

Paula
Competition News

This weekend just gone saw the Ladies' Club Champs played - Saturday was fine, but blowy, but Sunday was grey and depressing! The winner of the Ladies' Club Champs, and Ladies' Club Champion, I give you Paula Crabtree. Woooooooooooo Hooooooooooooooooooo! Well done to you.

We received the following report from Ladies' Captain Rose:

"Well done to the 23 ladies who entered the Club Championship this weekend. 18 holes on Saturday were played in sunshine and then came the wind and rain!! It was touch and go whether the competition would go ahead on Sunday but, in true fighting spirit, our Ladies persevered and ventured out on to the course only to be summoned back in due to waterlogged greens and pouring rain!! After assessing the course, off they went to complete their rounds which resulted in 2 new Champions - Paula Crabtree, overall winner with the best gross score of 168 over 36 holes and Julie Knox- best nett of 150. Congratulations to both. Rose

In the Weekday Medal last week, the winner was a young and majestic Lewys Charles (Lewys has the cutest little baby sister, she is absolutely scrummy!) followed by David Crews in second place. Well done both.

DougHole in One

This week saw Doug Peters (pictured here) gain a hole in one - on the 7th. Well done Doug, we are ever so proud of you. xx

Prize Draw Winner

This week I also took a lovely phone call from my editor Ed at Foremost Golf. David Martin purchased some PING irons from us a few months ago, and he was entered into a free prize draw. Ed called me to tell me that David had won, and both he and Paul will be travelling to Chigwell Golf Club on 12th August for a PING Tour Player day.

Many congratulations David! Paul will do a report on his return, but it certainly sounds very exciting and I am so pleased for them.

This week I want to wish John Savva a speedy recovery - he has been a bit poorly with labrynthitis. I had this once and I felt dizzy and sick ALL the time - it's vile, so I feel your pain John. Big kisses from us all here in the pro shop. xx

So what else has been happening? Iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit's ACADEMY NEWS TIME!!!!!

On the one fine day of 25th, sandwiched between two very rainy days, the academy went on the road again, this time to Portishead Lake Grounds. The fearless (fearsome perhaps?) four, Paul, Andy, Luke and George were 'aving it large ha ha (eeeek). Actually that's a little exaggeration, they were just coaching juniors, beginners and even one ex county player and not misbehaving for once!

It is great to see so many people get into the spirit of the day - we go out of our way to make it as fun as possible and have a great time. If we gain at least a couple of juniors coming to our regular coaching sessions, or introduce a few families to the club, then our work is done. I am so proud of these boys, they are so wonderful (and so easily forceable ha ha ha).

I got to miss out this year - as we are a Kristian down, I have to be in the Pro Shop to make sure there are no fires or other natural disasters. There are usually disasters but nothing which normally results in a call to the insurance company……………………!!

Without further ado, here are some pics of the boys at the Lake Grounds doing their "thang" y'all!

So what's next? We take a breather for the next week, and then we set off to the WECIL Inclusion sports day at Coombe Dingle on 5th August, to take part in a multi sports festival celebrating sport for all. The footfall here should be massive and it is a great opportunity to introduce golf to more people who would otherwise not access sport. We have our big inflatable net, our high tees, our Velcro targets and much more at the ready. More on this after the day!

After that, we have our next Get Into Golf day at @Bristol, by the planetarium in Millennium Square on 8th August 9am-3pm. This is probably going to be one of the busiest Get Into Golf Days we have done - all of them tend to attract a high footfall, especially Cabot Circus and places where we are instantly visible to a high volume of traffic - but I think with the other attractions around the area, this could be a biggie! The boys will multiply and there will be five at this day - Paul, Andy, Luke, George and James, so even more potential for introduction and retention wooooooooooo hooooooooooooooo. You will all be more than welcome to join us for fun and games! After all this, I am then going on holiday for three weeks to rock in a darkened room with padded walls….Paul & I will be away en Espana for three weeks from the 18th August until the 8th September, so I will recharge and come back with even more wacky ideas and crazy plans!

Tea tonight?
What's for tea tonight?

Winter Veg (yeah I know it's summer but someone forgot to tell the sun!) with new pots and olives. Yum yum.

Phew - does she ever stop?

Will she ever shut up and stop writing (?)!

Si!

Callaway Chrome Soft

The reason we ask is because this ball has been getting a lot of good reviews. It uses a low compression core to help amateurs compress the ball more easily, so it's long. You'll get good reaction around the greens, too, because of the softest and most durable Urethane cover Callaway has ever made.
