Hi everyone,
I hope you are all having a great week so far, here's the weekly round up. Keep reading for an exciting opportunity available to all of you.
It is noticeably colder this week, so wrapped up warm, the competitors in the Weekday Medal on 14th October went out to battle. The eventual victor was Greg Gough, followed by John Nelson-Smith in second place. Well done to you both!
Saturday saw the winners of the medals throughout the year compete in the Austin Cup. The winner of this was John Pope, with Grant McCall in second place and in third place came David Resnekov. Congratulations to you all.
The Ladies played in the Ladies V Seniors match last Wednesday, with the seniors being eventual winners. Congrats to all players!
The Moncrieffe Cup, a men's stableford, was held last Sunday 17th, the winner was Craig Short with 40 points, second Jack Partridge with 39 points and third Dave Mann with 38 points. Well played guys.
Forthcoming events include the Iwood Trophy, open to 1st and 2nd team players, on 14th October and also we look forward to the Matt Hawker Anniversary Bowl on November 21st.
So now onto Academy News!
Want to be a winner?
Fancy FREE coaching for a whole year?
For one fortunate golfer I am going to be launching a scholarship scheme to provide FREE coaching for a whole year. There will be just one place available on the scholarship and the winner will be drawn at the New Year's Day Cocktail Party.
I am looking for someone who really wants to get better, will have regular lessons and will practice in between lessons. The only requirement on your behalf is that you will allow me to document the changes and improvements we make through my weekly newsletter publication.
If you would like to participate in the draw then please let the Pro Shop know, or click here to register your interest and we will enter you into the draw.
Our Inclusive Session Series kicks off in style
This week saw the first of a three part Inclusion session series, and on Saturday two participants came along in winter woollies to use the academy course behind the first. Curtis and Joseph have been coming to the sessions for over a year, and they travelled on buggies down to the practice ground. They were so, so excited, having never been on a golf buggy before. They have also never used the 6 hole course before, but when they came back they came to the office to tell me how much they had a "brilliant" time. They were even more hyper when they got back!! This is such a wonderful gift to give these kids, I am thrilled that they enjoy coming so much.
We usually have a core group of six, but with the nature of various disabilities, it is not always possible for all of our pupils to attend and that's what I love about running these groups. There's no pressure to come every week, if they want to come we would love to have them, but equally if today is a bad day, then we'll see them when they feel better. Having access to a 6 hole facility for their use as well as for junior activity is such a massive bonus for these children.
PMGA up for another award....
Next Friday 23rd is the Celebration of Sports Award evening at the Bristol Hotel, for which we have been shortlisted for Contribution to Inclusive Sport. We are all going together with County Development Officer Debbie Casling, and looking forward to our champagne reception and three course dinner. Hope there's chips……!!! Only kidding. There will be a report in next week's newsletter (whether we win or not!).
The Club of the Year form is now complete and has been submitted to the county for their additions. I think it is unlikely we will even been shortlisted this year, because I don't know whether runners up are even allowed to re-submit the year after, but at least I tried. There are always so many good things going on that it's hard to keep track! If I hear anything, I will of course keep everyone posted, but any decision on shortlisting usually occurs after the New Year.
