Hello everyone!
It's been such a good week this week, so here's the lowdown…!
Last week saw the Moncrieffe Cup being played, with Craig Short taking the winner's place, followed by junior Jack Partridge in second and Dave Mann in third. Great job guys!
The Ladies played in their Florida Scramble on Tuesday 20th, with the winning team consisting of Paula Crabtree, Liz Hale and Dorothy Bastable. Well done ladies!
So what's next comp-wise?
- The Rugby Luncheon on Sunday, 31 October
- The November Stableford on Saturday, 7 November
- Pro Shop Stableford on Saturday, 14 November
- Matt Hawker Anniversary Bowl on Saturday, 21 November
- Pill Owls Trophy on Saturday, 28 November
Plenty to be going on with!
So now we move on to what's been happening this week in the Academy!
We have had the busiest week this week, and it's been good fun as well as hard work! If you remember, we were shortlisted for the Wesport Celebration of Sport Contribution to Inclusive Sport Award. The day finally came last Friday evening when we went to the Bristol Hotel Conference Centre for the Awards ceremony. All of the staff scrubbed up well, and the event was hosted beautifully by Colin Jackson CBE.
After scoffing a three course meal, the time came for our award nominations. Would it be the winners? Unfortunately not (boo hoo!), but we were runners up so I am thrilled. The winner of the Contribution to Inclusive Sport category was AccessSport Ignite, which are a large inclusion organisation so I don't feel bad that we didn't win - there are after all only us four doing our best to get everyone into golf!
It was a pleasure to be shortlisted, when there's a huge amount of people in the South West doing good stuff, and we were told it was stiff competition just for shortlisting. I am so proud to work with great staff, a great County Development officer
Debbie Casling and
Bob Hill from SportArray, and it makes my job so satisfying.
We have proudly displayed our runners up certificate next to our Laddie Lucas Golf Foundation Award and Paul's Fellowship of the PGA, so all in all it's been a good Academy Year so far hasn't it?
I am very much enjoying working in the Junior Quorum with new JO
Vicky Reed, new Junior Comps Secretary
Helen Wilson, Junior Welfare Officer
Chrissie Savage and new Junior Treasurer
Sandra Gibbs. We also have a Junior Photographer,
Linda Meaton, and hopefully a new Junior Treasurer on the way - I'm very excited!
Vicky proposed a box league for our juniors to play other juniors at local clubs, and I have followed it up with the JO at Long Ashton who is keen to take part. I am really pleased that we are now able to drive this forward and it will be great for all the juniors in the locality.
We have also arranged a Junior Christmas 9 hole and 6 hole stableford and scramble respectively, followed by a Christmas buffet. More details to come on this!
Juniors can also sign up to the junior Facebook page,
Bristol and Clifton GC juniors, which is a
safe and
closed group (invite only) to see the latest developments and competitions available.
As you can see, great progress is being made and we are all excited to promote and develop further.
Last December I completed the Mind Factor Coach Certification with world famous Performance Coach
Karl Morris. This April I decided to study once again, to become a Master Mind Coach and I was thrilled to receive the news at the weekend that I have successfully qualified as a Master Coach. Yippee!
The work that Karl Morris does with Graeme McDowell, Lee Westwood, Darren Clarke and many many more elite and amateur golfers is fascinating and I have learnt so much about how to get the mind to think and behave when under pressure.
We are due to have another evening from Karl at some point next year. The date is currently being organised so watch this space!
The new
Titleist 716 irons and hybrids have now arrived and I fitted a lucky member at the weekend for a new set. I was very impressed with their performance. The sleek look of the new
AP2 head provides wonderful workability to golf shots for the more competent striker and what's better, it's now as forgiving as last year's bigger headed version AP1.
My old favourite,
Titleist AP1 has been redesigned to gain more distance, more height and a seriously large sweet spot. As for the new
816 hybrids, all I can say it's the best looking rescue club I have ever seen with its matt grey stylish finish. Demonstration models and comprehensive fittings are now available.

The
FREE scholarship coaching for a year with Paul has really kicked off, with loads and loads of you really wanting to do it. I am absolutely bowled over by this and so excited to see who the lucky winner will be! Unfortunately we will all have to wait until 1st January to find out, but there's plenty of time to put your name down - just let us know in the shop and we can enter you into the draw.
For those who missed out last week, Paul is looking for someone who really wants to improve, will listen and practice. All he ask's in return is to be able to document the lessons in the weekly newsletter. Anyone can apply, so if you have the credentials apply now by
clicking here, or have a chat with us in the pro shop.
Phew there is hardly time to breathe sometimes, but I have had a blast this week so I leave you on that note!
Have a great week
Caren, Paul, Luke and
Andy
