Why Coaching?

As we are specialists in our field, we can coach you to get the best out of your game. Are have many years of experience and a solid staff base, with many of the team coaching over 9 years here at Bristol and Clifton. Our head Pro Paul was coach to Eruropean Tour player Chris Wood for ten years, and also coached current tour player Laurie Canter as well as Chris Lloyd, Mitch Waite and Tyler Hogarty. We specialise in all aspects of the game, and our head assistant professional Andy is TPi qualified with a sports science degree, offering golf specific fitness. If you want to improve your game, you really only need to look to one academy team for all your golfing needs.

Paul Mitchell - Head PGA Golf Professional

Paul came to Bristol & Clifton Golf Club as assistant professional in 1993 at the age of 17. Commencing his PGA training on arrival, he qualified and became Head Professional in 2003. Since starting his career in golf, Paul has gained over 20 years’ teaching experience and is the founder of The Paul Mitchell Golf Academy. For more information on Paul click on the link above.

Matthew Blackman - Assistant Golf Professional

Matt joined the team in July 2022 and is very motivated to progress as a player and coach. . He made the decision to turn professional back in 2020 off a handicap of plus 2 and has since then played a lot of professional tournaments. Matt brings a lot of valuable experience and knowledge to the club which enables him to provide a great service. As a coach he understands the key aspects to taking off-course development onto the course, and he loves coaching all aspects of the game.
